Pretty cool.

What always throws me about these fake bokeh effects is that the boundaries between the 'in focus' and 'out of focus' shots are too abrupt and/or do not occur where you would expect them to. I think this is something only a photographer, who understands how focal planes work, will spot though.

yup, I have a family member that typically stands in line on black friday, just to get some random stuff for family members, hardly ever gets the "big ticket" item. Some folks just like doing that sorta thing.

Hehe when I was in my undergrad and had the time, once I was done doing thanksgiving festivities with the fam, I used to hang out with friends who would set up tents in front of whatever retail store on black Friday. We'd basically drink in the tent and get hammered until the doors opened. It was good fun even though we rarely scored anything worthwhile.

Would not do that now though. Different priorities now!

HEAVY compared to the 55. 27.44 oz at least it weight less than my Canon 85mm f/1.2L II :-P

For the price, I always check B&H for opened box items. I was supposed to get it used for $1239.95 but they made a mistake and had me going to the store 3 times. The last time I went, they told me it wasn't in the store yet. I made so much noise that they ended up giving me a brand new one for the same price. :-D

Nice! I would have done the same in your case.

Oh yeah I would never do anything like that....especially when you can pre-order one online like I did last night.

But there's a weird culture that some really hardcore Apple fans buy into. For them, waiting in line to get a new device is part of the experience. If that's their vice and what makes them happy, then who am I, the guy who gets really excited about photography and often goes to ridiculous lengths just to take a photo, to judge?

Haha, true that!

If given the option you obviously grab your camera for a photo and not your phone however theres plenty of times I only have my phone on me and want to take a photo so for that reason I see the benefit of a quality camera in my phone. I used to be anti-camera phone and used to think that a phone should just call and text but ive since seen the light (no pun intended)

That's why I switched to mirrorless though, so I would always have my camera on me, and so I do. If it's not on my person than it's only a few feet away from me. I only use my phone's camera for taking notes basically, like snapping a pic of what's in the fridge before grocery shopping and that sort of thing.

Having kids will make you appreciate your camera phone. Even with the RX1RII always nearby, my phone is almost always in my pocket for those fleeting spontaneous moments that you rarely can recreate.

I suppose, but I feel like it's just as quick (in my situation) to just step into the next room and grab my camera. Heck, around the house my camera is usually closer than my phone is, I usually drop my phone at the door with my keys

Well at least for me it was pretty much free until this year. With 2 years contract, I was always able to score iphones at $199+tax or $299+tax depending on which model. Then I always sold old phones at around $250-$350 depending on which model. There were no additional charges during the next 2 contracted years. All I had to do was commit to AT&T for 2 years which was not a big deal for me.

I asked AT&T why they stopped the 2 year contracts, and was told because the phone prices are becoming just way too expensive and can't provide phones at discounted costs anymore, even with 2 years contracts. Oh well... I'll dearly miss the almost free (or with very minimal amounts - less than $100 for sure!) upgrades every 2 years..

OTOH, Sprint is offering 2 year contracts with free iphone7 if you trade in your eligible cell phone. I don't think I'd be interested in joining Sprint, but here is the link if anyone is interested.

Real reason is T-Mobile... Their started it all ;) 2 phones with unlimited everything (LTE data no limit) and tethering. For 100 bucks. Much better then high premiums from att or Verizon.

This will get buried here quickly but since I was asked...

Here is a tutorial on the free jquery before/after plugin I use to compare images occasionally.

I made this video all in one take and didn't realize until I reviewed it that my 'after' image wasn't the correct one. Rather than redo the whole thing, I'm leaving it as is since it serves its purpose of showing how the script works. I now have the correct 'after' image on my website. :-)

Here's the link to this slider comparison online:

http://www.ussoriskany.us/Slider/ (external link)

And the tutorial on how it works:

If anyone is interested in this script, you can go to the catchmyfame website to download it and customize it to fit your needs. Here's the web address:

http://www.catchmyfame.com …query-beforeafter-plugin/ (external link)

If you'd like to use the one I modified, drop me a pm and I'll make the script available to you.

This is awesome. Thanks

It depends on what you want the resulting footage to look like. The general rule of thumb is that you want to double your frame rate, so if your shooting 25/24/23.98 fps then you want to shoot at 1/50 of a sec, if your shooting 29.97/30 fps then you want to shoot at 1/60th of a second. That's just a general rule though and can change depending on how you want the footage to look.

The video will be viewed through a projector for a group of people...I won't be shooting 4K, the projector is 1080p...

The resolution won't affect your shutter speed, just the frame rate. So pick the frame rate you want to work with and double it to get your shutter speed. If your using multiple cameras for the shoot then make sure you pick a resolution and frame rate that's available on both platforms.
