This will get buried here quickly but since I was asked...

Here is a tutorial on the free jquery before/after plugin I use to compare images occasionally.

I made this video all in one take and didn't realize until I reviewed it that my 'after' image wasn't the correct one. Rather than redo the whole thing, I'm leaving it as is since it serves its purpose of showing how the script works. I now have the correct 'after' image on my website. :-)

Here's the link to this slider comparison online:

http://www.ussoriskany.us/Slider/ (external link)

And the tutorial on how it works:

If anyone is interested in this script, you can go to the catchmyfame website to download it and customize it to fit your needs. Here's the web address:

http://www.catchmyfame.com …query-beforeafter-plugin/ (external link)

If you'd like to use the one I modified, drop me a pm and I'll make the script available to you.

Gene thank you for going out of your way to produce this for us. I for one much appreciate your time spent and will explore this further. Regarding your video, I'm so behind the 8 ball I haven't even got a clue how you produced that *, it's nice to have you talk through your Slider script and I will certainly explore and implement such a feature on my own site.

This Costas hummingbird was checking me out. Question was, who'd blink first? The pattern in the background is caused by a decorative design in my cinderblock wall and sunburned bush at the bottom of the frame.

I could never pay 500 plus for a phone! ! Jeezus or sign up for years just to have the newest crap. I have a blu vivo off amazon for about 120 unlocked 3gig ram super fast and it makes calls and can text hsha

I also was like that in the past. Until I got my first iPhone (the iPhone 3GS). I still find it a crazy amount of money for a phone, but I use my phone for a lot more than just calling and texting e.g. I use it to check my mails, browse the internet, control my PCs with Remote Desktop Client and play around with various apps. I also use it as an alarm clock and I use the calendar to arrange my appointments. On top of that I also use the Polar and Fitbit apps to sync my daily workouts to my profile on the Polar and Fitbit websites. I would already have quit these daily workouts if it wasn't for these apps. They keep me motivated.

Also, compared to photography buying smartphones is a really cheap hobby (for me at least). The iPhone 7 + Apple leather case + a couple of screen protectors would cost me around €820 and it would keep me satisfied for the next 3 to 4/5 years. A single Batis lens (e.g. the 1.8/85) costs 1.5 times as much as that (without a clear/protect/uv filter) and then you would even need things like a camera, a memory card...

Whenever I think something is really expensive and I'm trying to decide whether I can justify it, I'll try to calculate/predict the price/hour ratio. A simple example in my case is the game Team Fortress 2 on PC. I initially paid around €25 for it, but with all the in-game purchases, I'm probably around €150 (total cost) right now. You might say: that's a crazy amount of money for a game. But I've been playing this game since 2007 and I've played it for close to 1800 hours (and still counting). That makes it, together with my 13-year-old Sennheiser HD590, the best luxury goods purchase ever.

Glad you liked my video. I'm not very good at it but I enjoy the challenge. That's one of the reasons why I have my USS Oriskany website. I'm always trying to find new ways to make the site better such as a full-screen background image that scales automatically to fit the viewer's browser window.

Being 71, I'm trying to keep the cobwebs from taking over and want to exercise the old brain cells as much as possible. :D

Oh, if you have a website and want/need to create web pages easily, check out the free web builder Mobirise.

I need to sell my Hitech ND filters for Haida or Lee. I also need a polarizer. Thanks for timely input David.

haida is the way to go. cheaper and no color cast. Lee gives you a blue'ish cast

not lame at all. and ill make a correction for you. 'I haily recommend them. " <-- for David A.

;-)a

also would like to add. I think the best combo is having a round CPL. why? because it seems easier to rotate the cpl by itself and not the whole kit and avoiding the fear of glass slipping off.

Canon finally taking mirrorless seriously. This will be a nice second camera for Canon shooters...especially with their new and finally-improved near-Sony-quality sensors.

Oddly enough, now Sony is slightly on the wrong side of innovation as Canon has this whole touch screen AF thing down beautifully.

I'd love to see touch screen functionality on the next a7R as well as 6300. I know there are a lot of crumudgeons who think it's a gimmick, but I have seen any complaints from the Canon world about their new touch screen capabilities. Just watched Pi's 5D IV review on SLR Lounge and he was raving about it after shooting two weddings.

Haida ND Filters :

The other day I was testing the Haida CPL vs Singh Ray Color Combo CPL and I hated the Haida CPL. So, I'm taking advantage of Singh Ray's first ever 20% off sale to buy the 105mm Color Combo CPL for use with my 100mm filter system. That way I can use it on any lens I own (that takes front-thread filters).

But, today I wanted to evaluate the Haida ND filters - I currently own their 6 and 10-stop filters. WOW, they are practically perfect. I tested the 10-stop compared to no filter and the colors are nearly identical. Now I just need a 3-stop and a 15-stop Haida ND to complete my set.

Anyway, just in case my previous CPL filter comparison gave anyone the wrong impression, unlike their CPL I am very "hai" on Haida ND filters. <<<<sorry that was lame. :p I highly recommend them, just as others here already do. I first learned about Haida via Charlie's posts.

I love my 10 stop ND from Haida. I need to add the 6 stop 77mm version to the collection.
I have the 10 and 6 stop in 100mm, but I gave up using filter holders. So I ended up using the 77mm screw on 10-stop ND, and now I want the 6 stop version of that.

Out of curiosity (and I REALLY do not want to start a flame war!), I'm intrigued by your "near Sony quality sensors" comment. Is that true? What are you basing that off? (You were fairly happy with the 5DSR, if I recall). I'm very curious as to whether Canon is finally catching up with their sensors, because, despite everything, I STILL miss the ergonomics and ease of use of their cameras.

canon had the touchscreen down since the original EOS-M days, it was awesome, that was about the only thing going for that camera :-P

Face detect and eye detect help alleviate the pain somewhat, but still would love touch AF and a responsive touch interface, the FN menu would be so nice with it..... Sony HAS to give touch screen on next iteration.

The new 5D IV has about 13.5 stops DR...pretty close to the a7R II. The 80D was the first indicator that they finally took a strong step in DR. Then the 1DX II was strong. Dpreview, which has been very negative on Canon (especially with the 5DS R vs a7R II) has been documenting the improvement. It's now very close, but still not equal.

Unfortunately the 5DS R pre-dates that improvement. The 5DS R has like 12.4 stops DR, so a full stop less than 5D IV. Had the 5DS R sensor been as good as the 5D IV, my decision may have gone the other way.

BTW, what didn't you like about the filter holders?

And then they have since perfected the whole dual-pixel AF, which is an an advancement vastly superior to the AF in the original M (if I recall correctly).

Thanks for this.

The filter holders are a pain because I find myself fumbling a lot with all of that (specially at the beach, where you can't set anything down for fear of it getting sandy or wet).

I had the original Lee foundation kit. Sold it. Bought the equivalent from the Filter Dude earlier this year. Fumbled with it a couple of times. Stopped using it. I still have it and I still have my 10 stop and 6 stop ND 100mm filters.
But I find it's easier for me to pull one round filter from the small filter pouch I carry, and screw it on to the lens after it's on the camera, on the tripod and ready to go.
With the holders, I have to fumble with 3 different pieces: The adapter ring, the holder itself, then the filter.
The latter is easy enough to slide on, but ergonomically (i usually have only one hand free to do all this) it's kind of a pain.
