Another site that summarizes latest posts on multiple sites for a specific topic like photography is: ALLTOP (external link)

It's frequently updated and gives you the latest posts on dozens of sites.

This is great, thanks

Anyone got any good photography websites or blogs they can recommend? I go between POTN , FM and SAR and there's not enough new/interesting threads to keep me going a lot of the time. Is there anything else decent out there that people frequent? (Not necessarily another forum, in fact preferably not a forum)

And before anyone says less internet more shooting, it is what it is

I don't love the various pop photography YouTubers (Granger, Northrup, etc.), but I do enjoy a number of post processing YouTubers. Just do some "Photoshop" searches to find and follow them.

Crazy. I don't like that various markets get such different prices.

I have to admit that one of the two reasons I've been an a7x user since Jan 2014 is the ability to use my Canon-mount lenses on the Sony Exmor sensor. The 5D IV mostly neutralizes that issue.

My other reason for shooting the a7 series is the superior manual focusing toolset (EVF and peaking).

Anyway, I'm presently asking myself if I want to switch back so I'll have more of a known camera regarding longevity.

Is this a really sad reason to stick with the a7R II? >> I so much enjoy the daily interactivity with you and everyone here so much that I don't like the prospect of losing that significant source of enjoyment in my life. :) I know other folks here are not Sony users, but for me I wouldn't be as active here if I couldn't post images here. Nonetheless, I am considering the 5D IV.

Nice Eddie, I'm learning from this. I'm only a few miles from Haynes Motor Museum, and for sure I wouldn't have taken this image, but although I haven't been, I will use my "new eye's" when I visit thanks to you. Don't hold your breath, but I will post results when I do visit ;-)a Honest

David, not a sad reason at all to stick with the a7RII. If you do go back to Canon and the 5D IV, reports I've read indicate it's an improvement over the 5D III but is not quite up there with Sony or Nikon. In the end that difference may not matter much though. I'm talking about dynamic range and high ISO noise performance. I know you don't shoot much video so the fact that the new Canon body is not a first choice for shooting video is a non factor.

The touch screen looks very cool though.

If you leave the sony mafia and switch to Canon you're dead to us so....

jk

The a7 series has been out for three years now and I haven't heard any horror stories of bodies failing outright at all. The a7 cameras are somewhat unproven, but seem to holding up fine so far.

Haha, honestly I think there is about a 30% chance of me going with the 5D IV. It is a distinct possibility, but a not-too-likelihood.

Shooting is the antidote (because I truly love shooting the a7R II) and I'll be doing a ton of it the next two weeks. Tonight I'll be shooting the Plaza Art Fair here in KC. I'm parked on a garage right now waiting to get started. Love it so much!!

I keep meaning to take the Escort down to the Sunday 'breakfast' meets that they have down at Haynes, but as of yet haven't managed it....!! Last time I went there was in August 2009 which was before it came off the road to be restored!

I'm right there with you David, begrudgingly feeling the urge to pick up a 5D IV and pit it against my A7Rii. Everything I've heard from fellow shooters has been raves. I also held on to the vast majority of my Canon glass, simply because I was afraid this might happen... "I should sell these lenses. But wait, what if I want to go back, then I'm screwed."

For me, the biggest reason for switching over to Sony was focus. As a (mostly) portrait shooter, Eye-AF has been life changing. And even outside of portraits, the keeper rate is absolutely insane on the A7Rii. Since switching to Sony, I'm constantly amazed at the detail in Sony files, and the magic I can pull out of them, but my most frequent complaint about Sony, and it's one that keeps me up at night, so to speak, is COLOR. Skintones are not Sony's strength. And I shoot a LOT of skin, it's my bread and butter.

Canon's not perfect either. Back when I was a Canon shooter, sometimes I'd battle with what I called "Canon Redface". Now, even more often and to a more drastic extreme it seems, I battle Sony Orangeface. It also seems to introduce more green than it should. And that's even in situations where I've custom set WB. Don't even get me started on AWB, which is just downright bad on the Sony.

Or maybe it's just GAS. Idunno. But I think I may end up picking up a 5D IV, and shoot it alongside my A7Rii, and see what shakes out.

I found myself checking it out today...on FB a guy posted some images he shot and showed the shadow recovery capability...but in the end...the files are still smaller than the A7R2...and even if the focusing is improved...I bet it is still not as good as even an adapted lens on the Sony...

Example...this was shot wide open, at close range and of a moving target...and its spot on her camera left eye...nailed...I will be sticking around...

I reckon that when there is finally a 35/2 option I will part with the 55. I've always been more a 35 guy than a 50 but since I don't like any of the current 35 options I've been learning to like the 55. When the time comes that there is a better 35 option though I will likely revert back and sell the 55 even though I love it's IQ

Same here. I really enjoy shooting the Sigma 35/1.4 even though it's huge and not native.

In fact, I'm about ready to do a small purge and free up some cash by selling:
- Canon 6D body.
- CV 15 (m-mount).
- FE 55/1.8.

Not sure what I want to fund with the proceeds just yet.

You know my feelings on this topic. I've been battling that same dilemma for over a year now.

I'll give you one good reason not to go back to Canon (and believe me, I have been very tempted) is the glass not being as new (and therefore not always targeted to higher resolution sensors).
The one nice thing about Sony is all these new lenses being introduced by various manufacturers that are designed with 40+MP in mind. Batis, The FE lineup, and now Rokinon and CV getting into that mix.
I worry a bit about the Canon glass. It's great glass. but it's also getting pretty dated for many models.

I'll tell you where my mind has been straying to lately...I've mentioned it before (and God help me, I don't want to start another stinkfest around here): The XT-2 for a nice, weather sealed, crop, with good long glass to go with it. Might make a nice complement to the Sony system. I don't know...

If I ever switched back, I'd still come into this thread anyway. It's such a great group here.
