Bpaulette is correct. I saw how bright the wall was and thought hmm must be a good giant reflector. I usually use my palm to make sure the light is good.

ah ok makes sense! Lighting is all about problem solving....good use of your noggin!

I have actually bounced a flash off of an exterior wall when shooting outdoors and it works well.

Haha! I use my hand all the time. And yeah, honestly I rarely do portraits outside (prefer to sculpt the light however I'd like with reflectors and hate lugging them around), but when I do, I'm always on the lookout for white walls. Red bricks are my nemesis

I hate reflectors too lol...they're a big hassle and they often have color casts that are a pain to deal with.

When shooting outdoors I usually sculpt natural light by placing my subject along the boundary of the shade and sunlight.....the edge right before the actual sunlight hits them. The subject will basically be exposed by indirect sunlight that has a very gentle fall off. It creates a soft shadow on the subject's face that can be shaped by manipulating their position relative to the boundary of the shade.

This was shot at right around 12 noon...so very hard sunlight.

Genuinely thought that was another mystik username there Carlo after you changed your avatar. For some reason I've never noticed the 610 in your name before and only just realised it was you when you post d a photo :D

Lol. The 610 is all me. Carlo=clo=610....from back in the days when texting didn't exist and we typed messages with numbers onto pagers. It's stuck with me ever since.

another beach shot, 10 stopper, smooth reflections = 5+ minutes, unfortunately, not long enough to get rid of the crowds, it was pretty darn crowded when the sun started to come out again (was raining only a few minutes prior).

Beautiful Charlie. I actually like the look of the crowds. Kind of ethereal looking
