Landscape shooters - what's your thoughts on the automated multirow pano heads - gigapan, ioptron etc? Overkill?

On top of that I have a RRS gimbal and nodal slide. The electronic ones - I haven't seen Ioptron - seem a bit too cumbersome to me, though I've always looked longingly at them. If you really expected to make panos with great regularity it might be good. For me, though, I would probably just get a Nodal Ninja setup - they look good. i was trying to remember your setup after I posted that, I remember an image of it previously. I'm actually now thinking of adding a levelling base and nodal rail with arca clamp to the rotating clamp I already have, that way I will be able to do single row panos with minimal kit. I can also use the camera in portrait orientation to gain back a bit of sky and foreground. I'm currently trying to work out if the 200mm nodal rail is long enough A minimal single row setup is ideal - easier to use. For single row panos means you'll likely be using shorter focal lengths and 200mm sounds fine. Pretty sure even the Batis 85mm would be Ok on it (I can check if you want). My slide is about that length. Longer telephotos need longer slide. David | Flickr

Recycle times could be better, but plenty of power on tap. On another note....Sony plastic hot-shoes are the worst idea ever. My Godox 860 was in an octabox along with the godox ad360 (canon version with a metal mount) using a double bracket. Some wind knocked the octabox over and the Sony plastic hot-shoe broke, and the Canon hot-shoe was fine. I'm never using a Sony speed light in an outdoor off camera set-up ever again.... Thanks! Are you saying all the flashes for Sony have a plastic hot shoe, regardless of brand (your Godox shoe broke)? I'm a little confused. I think I saw some complaints on Amazon about the i40 shoe as well. David | Flickr
