Pretty sure the camera wouldn't have the exact same specs as an a7R II except for an added joystick for an extra $3K. :p

does it matter what they add? would you pay $6000+ for a camera?

Me? No. That same post you quoted states clearly I'm very content with what I have in the a7R II. What I won't do, though, because it's none of my damn business, is worry about what others may want to have as their new camera budget.

If I were a full-time pro making a good income from my work and felt a $6000 camera had a strong compelling set of features that would advance my work, then I would certainly buy it. And guess what: That is precisely who $6000 cameras are aimed at (along with wealthy POTN dentists who can easily afford buying a $6000 camera). They don't make $6000 cameras for non-full-time-pros like us.

Have some perspective: most people in this world probably think it's insane to spend $3000 on any camera regardless of what is has.

I've now had the a7rii for 18 months which equals my longest time owning a body (sold the 5d3 at 18 months) and seriously have no intention of upgrading no matter what the a7riii has to offer. First time I've felt like this andnlike David says above there are things that bug me but not enough to make me want a change

i agree 3k for a joystick and additional card slot and even a touchscreen is not worth it.

For an extra 3k I would rather have a second a7rii

Have some perspective: most people in this world probably think it's insane to spend $3000 on any camera regardless of what is has.

This is why I don't believe that the a9 rumors are legit. The body makes absolutely no sense at all. The primary people paying $6k for a 1Dx are commercial sports and wildlife photographers, and 1. they don't care that mirrorless cameras are small, and 2. there are not enough super telephoto lenses in the system to support it 3. who in their right mind would pay $5k for the a9 when the a99II is $3K.

My take is that we see an a7III drop next year....FF a6500/mirrorless a99II priced at $3k. Perhaps with a new 24mp BSI sensor with less resolution, but really good sensitivity. Joy-stick and dual cards.

Either way I wouldn't be in a rush to upgrade as the a7rII does everything I need it to.

I'm really intrigued what will separate the next a7 from the II models. I like my a7R II so much that it's the first camera I've ever owned that doesn't lack much of anything for my needs. It makes I wonder what sort new thing would make me actually want an a7R III. And though I would like improvements like better weather sealing, or joystick, or touch screen, or a brighter sunlight-visible screen, or two memory slots, better AF performance, etc., none of those things would make me wish I could upgrade.

I do have a bit of a wish list

1. Better AWB, yes, I snap often and send to social media direct from camera to phone :p
2. File size selection
3. Faster write times, seems just so long!
4. Touch screen + joystick
5. "App" mode not so darn slow
6. Smooth reflections should have a countdown like it does on the A7r.... what's up with that?
7. EVF sensitivity adjustment
8. 14-20x zoom magnification and/or higher quality EVF
9. Focus by wire needs to be better
10. Gimped AF for adapted stuff :-)
11. Quicker, more responsive camera.
12. Global shutter
13. intervalometer
14. Bulb timer... even as rare as I use it now, there are some scenarios I still would like it.
15. A more open APP api for developers
16. A way to shut off the EVF/LCD finder without shutting down the camera
17. Better working NFC? doesnt work terribly well, so I revert to manually sending.
18. High speed shooting in silent mode
19. Fully electronic shutter, I want my camera rated for millions of shutters :p

I think it would have to check all those boxes and more for sony to really trigger me.

that's a good point, but if I can fetch 1K from my A7rii, I might be in range for the A7riii, whatever that may be :p

Great list. As an outdoor photographer I'd also greatly appreciate having a screen that is bright enough in daylight, like the screen for the new DJI Phantom 4 Pro.

I received Eddie's Laowa 12 today. Solid lens. Quick test shot in my backyard (David is going rip me a new one because of my tilted verticals :-)). Looks good so far! Mushy in extreme corners. Could be field curvature. Not a big deal IMO
