Awesome work David!

So here is that crazy sunrise from last week that I mentioned. These were the colors in the sky no joke. Probably the second best sunrise I've seen around town. I really had to keep my saturation/vibrance sliders in check when editing this to avoid color overload when adding pro contrast and other filters in Nik Color Efex.

I had to crop in about 30% due to other distracting buildings on the right and the edge of the parking garage wall in the foreground. I think I missed sharp focus by a bit with the Loxia 21. I think because I was too excited to capture the scene. I captured vertical frames for a panorama but I've never been able to stitch them correctly. Need more practice or a longer focal length I guess.

The other thing that bugs here is that building on the bottom left. It slants like that in real life too because the street angles down. I tried puppet warp to fix it but it didn't look right. All other buildings are straight.

Alfredo, I'm curious if either you or David A. ever use the 'Edit>Perspective Warp' feature in PS? It's not one of those features mentioned very often but it might be useful in a situation like this.

Here's a good tutorial on the use of this feature. It looks like it would be fun to play around with anyway.

that's good news. is the cleaning under warranty or you paid for it?

Can you give me their info just in case? The last time I sent a Sony(A7R) to the Sony Service Center it was in Laredo, Texas. it took them time to fix it. It was when they recall the A7R for lousy lens mount replacement.

I did it under the imagingPro memebership. I live in AZ and they always send it to I think Connecticut

Amazing image Alfredo. Wow, what a sunset that is!

Thanks!

Last one with the Laowa 12mm for tonight...will post some more tomorrow. I shot the Batis 18mm and 25mm and 85mm as well today, but had too much fun shooting 12mm. :)

I think with a little practice, it might work well. Here's a quick edit I tried. The trickiest part might be to blend the corrected perspective building back in with the rest of the scene.

Fantastic Gene! Thank you for doing that. I'll work in it tonight. I think this image may be a good candidate to print once I fix that building.

My Loxia 21 arrived and I done a decentering test and it looks fine. Struggling with focus though! Having read a lot about the lens on FM forum it seems most people say for landscape apertures focus until you hit the infinity hard stop then back it off a tad. In my testing when I layer both images (one on the hard stop and one backed off a tad) in photoshop so that I can click between the layers the backed off image is much sharper in the foreground but things on the horizon go soft. Maybe im backing it off too much? How much is "a tad"? Im sure its something ill work out with practice but it seems difficult at the moment.

Carlo / Alfredo - How did you guys find it at first? How do you set focus for landscapes?

It was tricky at first for sure. I back off to the left loop of the infinity symbol. It's a small adjustment. I'm usually at f8-f11.

My "tad" is minute - the throw on this lens is very short - MF Assist + Centre button is almost mandatory with this lens.
I've taken the liberty of quoting Gary Friedman for anyone interested. It's from his absolutely excellent book
The Complete Guide to Sony’s Alpha 7r II
“PROFESSIONAL INSIGHTS FOR THE EXPERIENCED PHOTOGRAPHER”
by Gary L. Friedman
Version 1.2 ISBN 978-1-329-62872-4

Quote" [Note: This camera has TWO similar focus-magnification aids: MF Assist (this section), which kicks in automatically when manually focusing with a native lens, and Focus Magnifier (Section 6.31), which is invoked manually and can be used with non-native lenses and in movie mode.] "

Thanks both. When I zoom to 12.5x on something on the horizon the hard stop looks best but I'm trying to get the best compromise from front to back at f/8. Its dark now so I will test more tomorrow but my initial test was me backing off to the left edge of the infinity symbol and I was losing critical focus at items on the horizon.

I know this is a user issue as opposed to a lens issue but just trying to work things out
