This I also posted at FredMiranda (where a great ongoing list is being maintained about EF+A7Rii compatibility)-
Happy to report that the new Sony works well with the 400DOii via the Metabones IV. I'm actually elated that this combination works and for several reasons. The first being that my MBiv works--there was a report on POTN about an adapter arriving dead in the water. Secondly that the AF with this lens is fast=I would not be able to tell the difference in focus speed between this combo versus this lens on my 5Diii. Is it perfect? Nope, but the hunt time was minuscule and that happened only when I'd go from close focus to far.
Settings for those curious: AF-C, Flexible Spot Medium, Auto ISO, AWB, High burst rate. Though excited/elated this is not a combo I plan on using often. I'm looking forward to adding an EOS 400mm 5.6, and I read on FredMiranda (thanks so much for that ongoing compatibility list Mr. Miranda) that it also does well. Reading is one thing I've got one coming Monday from Lensrental to have a hands on.
Now a shot from this morning-

Your photos with the DO are so good. What is impelling the addition of the 400mm f5.6?

I don't know... I've not looked into it so can't say about the exact specs of one vs the other ;)

-1EV for the a7II and -2EV for the a7rII. So one stop extra sensitivity.

There are also some different AF settings that I haven't played with yet. Need to spend more time with native lenses this weekend.

Advaitin, reasoning is weight and money.
You know we're still hiking types and sometimes I do down. Me thinking in a fall or tumble the lens is most likely to get hurt versus the camera body...yeah a bad fall and all get hurt. Next, money, I'd rather trash a 400 5.6 than the DOii. Next is weight, 2.75 pounds versus 4.6 pounds. Scenario=today we're headed for a waterfall. I'll take the Sony and the 28mm F2. It would be nice to have the 400 5.6 in the pack for just in case wildlife. The hike and climb down to this set of falls is dangerous, even for an 18 year old.....

In a way I'm recreating something I had in the past. I used to use a Nex-7 + 400 5.6, shame I sold it. It was sharp.
Now the reports coming out of FredMiranda say it focuses fast with the A7Rii. From what I saw this morning with the DOii on the Sony I can believe it. In fact I don't want to brag on it too much but really it amazed me....maybe I didn't expect the results I saw coming from the slooooooooooooooow AF with the MBiii + A7R, but this new combo is just amazing; I'd even go so far to say at this point that BIF is possible, but I've got no first hand proof of that.

So all is good except where I live! It's looking like the A7Rii can do everything (we know that isn't quite true but it is the current cat's meow) but what I want to shoot next I can't have because of our eternal/constant/never ending clouds, beautiful yes but 300+ days a year of it and me wanting to put this beast of a camera on the astro mount or just one shot of the Milky Way.
Quick get me a beer to cry in Ha!
p.s. I don't drink beer.

I did not realize it was that light weight.

so happy about the last feature.... charging internally without the nag..... WOW, finally they get that fixed. I have a powerpack, and this can be helpful if I dont have spares on me since I seldomly keep spares around.

So aside from the resolution and the ability to AF adapted lenses, the main advantages of the a7rII vs the a7II are 4k video, and a better AF system with native lenses.

It's somewhat akin to the difference between the 6D and the 5DS. You're paying a lot of money for the resolution and AF system, and the value proposition will definitely vary from person to person, depending on whether or not they need those features.

Another possible advantage...the one that most interests me about the a7R II is high ISO performance. I was thinking in that reard that the a7R II (with BSI sensor) is a sort of combination of a7S and a7R. BUT, I really want to see some comparitive tests.

Sorry this doesn't help answer your question David but I was testing the 100-400L on the a7rII this morning. Lens wouldn't AF at 400mm but would quickly if I zoomed out some. I'm not sure at what focal length AF starting working.

This was using a Metabones III adapter and version I of the lens.

This shot was done using MF @ 400mm.

Mystik-fingers crossed on you 70-200 2.8II.....read on FM forum that the 100-400ii not so friendly with A7Rii+MBiv.

Gene that is a wonderful Mockingbird capture. Perfect focus/exposure but I love the composition even more....and that blue sky=wow, not a cloud in sight-what I'd give.

Still no one commented on the ISO 25,600 shot I posted up???? Seriously who needs A7S (though I've already starting a kitty fund for the A7Sii). I went back and Topaz DeNoised it RAW moderate and was amazed at how it cleaned up.

Puckman to answer your question. My contract with the hospital is week on and week off. That gives me 26 weeks off/year. If I take one week off it gives me 3 week off in a row. Using those 3 week chunks over the last 14 years I've hiked from Springer Mountain Ga. to Hanover NH on the AT, visited 368 units of the NPS in the US, 4 NPs in NZ, 5 in s.Africa, 4 in Chile, etc.etc. So not retired. I work 'full-time' and have to to keep up my camera kit and travel budget.

Had the same problem with my 100-400 mkII, did really good at short distance so I took it with me this morning then started shooting at 400mm and it was a hit or miss so went with MF, which is fine with me I got pretty good at it with my old a7r (I love focus peaking).

After a visit to the Weston Airshow it was inevitable they would come back with something. Their first Airfix kits is a pretty cool thing to choose though [especially a Spitfire & Hurricane] and better than sweets!!
