Great time last night with my lady..
In nyc for dinner and then to watch "A Bronx Tale"
then walked around enjoying the good , dry weather .. was supposed to thunder and lighting rain.. but we got saved from that ..

A night to remember with someone special..
and an opportunity for pictures

Is it just me, or is this shot a great example of chroma noise taking over a photo? Maybe I'm just high?

He's basically stacked the deck hard against the lens. Very dark setting, continuous key light, on a camera body notorious for not handling high ISO well. This shot alone is a great demonstration of how t5.6 can really screw you in challenging situations. If being an ambassador means educating people on why they might want to avoid buying certain pieces of gear, mission accomplished.

How is Jason Lanier a Sony Ambassador, when he puts out such bad examples? Could someone enlighten me, because it really doesn't make sense

it's an aweful amount of noise for 3200 I think. Why is he still pimping that rotolight? Why not just flash if he's going to use lights?

That was the point I tried to make in the comments, but according to him and his fanboy, I've "missed the point"

I thought the point of the lens was to get gorgeous OOF transitions. All I can see in his bokeh is a mess of green and pink grain

Not that I am going to agree with anyone's fanboys, but if you were shooting an event in the rain, and pulled off a well lit shot like that at 3200iso I think your client would be extremely pleased. You can pixel peep anything to death. My only issue with the pic you linked to his FB is the cropped left hand - everything else is great from an overall perspective.

I don't think I am particularly interested in that lens, but it is at least an interesting concept to see what it can do.

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

what I've found that has made me stop watching lanier videos .. is that if feels like a constant promotion of a product.. maybe I've missed out on some but for a while every video felt like a sony commercial or some new rotolight product.. its kind of a turn off ,

Hmm, guess it would depend on the client. I've had non-commercial (still paid client, just individuals, not a business) who seem to be happy with whatever, regardless of technical issues like this. I've also had commercial clients who would demand a reshoot from half that much noise in a final image

It didn't look so bad on my phone, but looking at it on my laptop, I'm with you...the noise ruins what should be a great shot from a creative and conceptual standpoint.

For that type of shot the issue isn't so much t5.6....its more the weak-ass lights he used. With a proper speedlight, he could have pulled that shot off at ISO100 even at t5.6. If his point was to pimp the rotolights, he did quite the opposite. That shot is a big reason NOT to use persistent lights.

Vinz, great shots of Bernadette pre. Did you use the flashpoint strobe? Catchlights hint that you did, but the lighting looks very natural. You nailed the balance of ambient and off-camera lighting, which is very hard.

Got my long lens support rig (for my failed Contax attempt). Hejnar + RRS = quality. It can double as a nodal rail.
