My dog walked me and got a few with the FE 55mm.

Not quite 100% crop, really impressed with the 55mm.

For me, when compared to the a7r "Classic", the a7r II is leaps and bounds better in terms of AF, both with native lenses and 3rd party. I've never owned an a7II so I can't comment on that comparison. To me, the a7rII has put all the best features of the a7 series cameras that came before it into one package and improved on some of those features as well. I don't shoot much video but when I do, it will be nice to have the option to shoot in 4K with no additional hardware. That resolution works great for online videos and even improves the clarity of HD when downsampled to 1080p resolution. AF works great shooting video using native lenses and the a7rII even lets you customize how quickly focus shifts from one subject to another.

Don't forget, this camera has only been out for two days so it may be a bit premature to pass judgement on how well everything works. We are, or at least I am still learning our/my way around the new settings, etc.

Yeah. I'm coming from the A7II though. So I already have all the "best features" etc...The only thing that's really missing for me to comfortably sell my 6D and fully commit to Sony is being able to continue using my longer Canon L glass with AF (for those times I find myself enjoying the great outdoors). I'm not convinced the A7R2 has bridged that gap yet.

While I was visiting the in-laws in Ventura earlier this month, I took both the 6D and the A7II for this reason. The Sony was used for MF, mostly static-subjects and landscapes (of which there wasn't much out there). So when I got bored of a boring beach in mid-day (not exactly landscape friendly), I grabbed the 6D and 100-400L and was able to shoot stuff like this from the comfort of my lounge chair.

(Ugh, Work firewall preventing me from getting to Flickr....If you go to my Flickr, you'll see the dogs on the beach about a page down...You get the idea).

if you plan to keep your canon lenses with sony camera, then you need the A7RII for its speed in adapted lenses. A7II cannot do that, right?

Any of you guys here use strobes for portrait work? Trying to get a recommendation for an entry level strobe but no joy yet. Question is unanswered in the lighting forum

if you have walls, convert that into a gigantic light modifier.

the shot below was shot with on-camera sony speedlight(60M) bounced to the wall camera left. With DIY black foamy wrapped on the flash head to avoid spill light coming from the camera.

the second was with on-camera speedlight with gary fong lightsphere and bounced to the wall camera right.

if you want a fill light on the other side, use a V-flat or reflector. or if the other wall is white and closer, it can bounce some lights back. play with light, paint with light.

Well, your a7II only has the best features found in the a7II.

The a7rII has the same features as the a7II but from what I've read, the IBIS has been improved, of course the resolution has been increased over all the a7 series, the AF has been improved for both native and 3rd party lenses, silent shooting has been added to an improved, quieter shutter, high iso performance has been improved, internal 4K video has been included too and of course, the a7rII now has the same body as the a7II.

I think the feature you desire improvement on the most over your a7II is AF using 3rd party lenses. While it has improved, tremendously for many lenses, I think it's becoming pretty clear that those improvements aren't implimented as well with long glass. Whether that will change in the future with firmware updates for the Metabones adapter, only time will tell but not something I would count on as the justification to buy the a7rII.

If the features other than fast AF using 3rd party, telephoto lenses don't appeal to you then obviously, there's no need for you to upgrade to the a7rII. To me, there are enough new and improved features of the a7rII over the a7r to justify the upgrade to me. As I mentioned, I've always planned on keeping my 5D3 for AF on my long lenses anyway.

I really hope performance is well with the 70-400 + LA-EA3. Thats about the only lens that I would prefer AF to work with. I've already crossed over to orange, hopefully I dont have to sell and reshuffle gear, really happy with the optics. Planning to sell off my last canon extender 1.4iii once I get the confirmation.

I had forgotten about that. The A series lenses, like the 70-400, when used with the cheaper LA-EA3 adapter utilizes all 399 phase detect AF points on the a7rII.

Oh, something I just became aware of is that the a7rII can be charged in the field using a battery pack while it's being used. That would be very handy for shooting time lapse movies or when on location where household current isn't readily available.

Can someone please test magnification in the EVF to see if pixelation occurs as claimed by some on FM?

I've been using it extensively (during manual focus with Canon lenses and DMF with native glass) but nothing like what they describe. Could it be that the diopter adjustment dial has been turned to one extreme or the other? That's one pet peeve I have with adjustable viewfinders on some cameras. There is no clear indication where 0, +1, -1, etc., and it's not indented enough to prevent accidental turn of the dial, should the latter occur, there is no quick way to restore the optimal setting because of the former. Many a times I've looked in the finder and wondered why the AF indicator is giving the green light but still looks blurry to my eye.

AAHHHH.. Kill it with fire!!

I like the concept of macros, but I cannot look through macro threads.. Flowers are good... bugs.. yyeeeeeeeesssshh.. No, gracias.

Anyway, not to take away from your very nice picture of a terrible, evil death creature.. Nice shot. ;)

Don't kill spiders, just let them be - they catch other winged nuisances such as mosquitoes and gnats. Most spiders in the US will not harm humans if left alone. They will weave beautiful web that will glisten with dew at the dawn's breaking light.

However, I have zero tolerance for ants in the house, termites, cockroaches, mosquitoes, and especially ticks. We found a big fat tick feasting on one of our beloved cats earlier this summer so after extracting it, I let it live in a aerated jar, left it in direct sun and gave some water every once in a while to prolong its misery :evil:
