Woke up this morning from a dream where I had convinced myself to buy the FE 50mm f/1.4 ZA. Totally crazy...now I want it in my wakefulness (my FE 55mm 1.8 is plenty good)!
David, get it. The Planar 50 1.4 ZA is crazy good. Better than 55 1.8.

Mar 24, 2017 14:41 | #31487 some snaps earlier, I'm really liking this zeissness feel again, whitebalance as shot. It does vignette a bit, but probably not enough to worry about. 100-300 Image hosted by forum (846913) © Charlie [SHARE LINK] THIS IS A LOW QUALITY PREVIEW. I miss having the Otus 55mm, which is about as perfect a lens I've ever touched. The Planar 50 1.4 ZA may not have the same quality bokeh and could be a let down for me, but the contrast, sharpness, and CA-correction seems to be near Otus-like from what I've seen. David | Flickr

Also, I'm mulling the notion of having a pair of 1.4 primes to walk around with for street shooting...can see myself shooting with a 35mm 1.4 ZA and 85mm 1.4 GM as a pair. But, if I just go with only one 1.4 prime, then the 50mm will probably be the pick. Finally, I may continue down the path I started where I focus solely on landscape-optimized primes (Loxia) and skip the fast stuff. This is hard to do, though...bokeh is like a drug. ![]() Yep! I got a taste of it with the 85 GM and am hooked. - Alfredo -
