If there was ever a time to use F1.4 and blow the background out, that wall was begging for it. I would have pulled her away from the wall if at all possible. Nice use of bounced flash as the lighting on her face is very nice.

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

good suggestion but part of me when i shoot that was the texture of the wall though. contrast to her smooth skin.

Nope. I'm pretty sure it cannot be recovered especially the understaff police force in our community.

I'm thinking about going for the new fe 85. The loxia 21 and FE 28, 55, 85 combo seems like a good kit for me. Fast(ish) aperture, great af, small size and low weight.

To be honest, I think some people make too much noise about large lenses on small cameras. I was shooting my Tamron 180mm macro today and it didn't balance bad at all. I do have a preference for the smaller and lighter though.

Mine is coming in tomorrow, if it's a notch above my Fe 50, I'll be happy.

I'm amazed by the iphone 7 ISO1600. 1600 is my max when i was still on Canon 60D

Using "Slow Shutter" apps. an app that can do long exposure, light trails, low light and with intervalometer. it also have live bulb. and you can use your earbuds volume as the shutter.

lit with my iMac only. room light was off. Noise reduction from the app was used. no sharpening.

p.s.: this is my 58mm f1.2 minolta. this has to go now. i think it was geneimmons who expressed interest in taking this off my hand. i will include the adapter and that metal hood. i will take a better pic later. a couple more for sale in my sig.

Apparently the Batis 135 f2.8 is an apochromat lens. The Zeiss 135 f2 APO is highly regarded as the best 135mm you can buy….particularly in how well CA is controlled. I wonder how much in common the batis 135 shares in common with the 135 f2 APO. F2.8 is not a deal killer for me. The background compression obliterates the background even stopped down, and I often stop my 135 f1.8 down because I need the DOF and also because of the CA wide open.

I think the 70-200 GM covers my telephoto portrait lens needs though. I’m probably going to sell the SAL 135 f1.8 and use the 70-200GM more for posed portraiture.

I was all geared up to buy the Batis 135mm...think it would be a killer landscape telephoto...but I decided to go in a wildly different direction: going to try my hand at video. The a7R II is a fantastic video camera and that's a whole world of the camera's abilities that has so far been unexploited by me.

I've been doing a lot of travel planning lately and using YT to check out places we're interested in. Watching and enjoying some of those videos (even though most of them are horrendous) has inspired me to jump into that arena. So, instead of a lens I ordered a Zhiyun Crane (gimbal) and am currently trying to solve how I want to capture the ambient sounds (leaning towards a Zoom H2N).

Going the route of a DJI Phantom 4 Pro was a strong consideration, as Michael Shainblum's aerial videos have been really inspiring to me (they're incredible). But, drones aren't allowed in some of the places I want to cover, and I also want my videos to capture the sounds as well as sights of places. Adding a drone later as a supplemental capture device would be incredible though.

speaking of video, I've been giving the 28-135 a peak, but the price has been holding me back.

on the topic of audio, that mic seems fantastic. I use rode for simplicity of hot shoe mount, but the zoom looks like a much more sophisticated device that can do directional and ambient, where the rode, you have to pick one or the other, and I chose directional. Sony's built in mic isnt bad btw. bad is like canon's built in, picks up way too much noise.

another huge advantage of zoom is that it can do it's own audio. This is nifty because sometimes I forget to turn on the rode and then left with no audio at all! With zoom, you'll get a backup audio stream, but more work importing in separate audio files. May be worth it.

Bro if you have a chance can you shoot a full body and a 3/4 shot with your 135 F1.8 @F2.8? We'll see how it renders. thanks.

the size of the 135F2.8 looks sexy. 67mm filter.

I'm looking forward to reading your thoughts about both the gimbal and the zoom mic once you try them. I suggest you let the camera record audio as well as the zoom so that you can sync the zoom audio to the video track easily. Then you can either mute or reduce the volume of the camera audio to suit.
