'if 1) Sony comes out with an A7III that really does AF well with Canon lenses in the 300-400....'
Puckman I don't know. What I saw/lived today with the 400DOii seriously blew me away. Not in my wildest dreams did I expect it to work and work so well.....the limitations I can live with-why? Because I've seen a 5Diii hunt, a 7Dii hunt, the 6D hunt. None are perfect, the A7Rii with adapted a BIT less so.
Truthfully The Big One is camera of the year.....sad, the day it arrived it was obsolete.

Hey, here is something funny. Per my habit of always carrying two cameras, today I carried as 'back up' my old Nex-5. What fun it was to carry it along! It was the camera that started my march to poverty HA!!! True that!

Peak Design CapturePRO Camera Clip. Vin I've got one...never used it :( For true multi-day backpacking it is way too heavy. For day hikes it would be good. I do have Peak Design anchors on every body.

Yeah its pretty interesting to test the a7rII next to my 5DIII, as its easy to forget that even the 5DIII has its limitations....and I'm running into them when testing. Without the 5DIII as a control the a7rII feels worse than it is.

The a7rII doesn't quite meet the AF performance of the 5DIII, but it feels VERY reminiscent of my old 5DII. I find that I have to be careful with the patterns I focus on with the a7rII in low light...particularly horizontal lines. Searching for high contrast areas and vertical lines on my subject is is a technique that I picked up shooting with the 5DII, and I shot weddings on that thing just fine.

Hah I saw the flower shot on your Nex-5 on flickr. Thought it shot on your a7rII until I looked at the EXIF. Nice shot!

Something other than birds :)
We hiked to Red Fork Falls today...this is one of those hikes where one misstep and your either dead or in a body cast for some months, in fact every year someone falls to their death here; luckily not us today.
First time using the 28 F2 and compared it with the 16-35 F4 and the SEL 10-18.
This one from the 28mm F2-

This...

Exactly. I think I'm definitely on board with the Sony system once I can go all-native. I was not faulting Sony for not working well with adapted lenses. That was always an added bonus for most of us.
But for those of us who want long and short focal lengths, the lack of native 300s and 400s make it easier to stick to Canon or to a 2 system solution.
I'm happy to keep the A7II for native FE lenses (shorter focal lengths for now) and manual lenses (for their size mostly) and keeping the Canon (Might think about replacing the 6D with a 7D2 or 5DS) that I can still fall back on for the 100-400 (and I'm now also contemplating the 100-400mk2, which is supposed to be a gem).
Those longer lenses are kind of wasted on the Sony, honestly as 1. They defeat the size purpose and 2. They don't AF well yet.

I'll sell my Canon gear entirely if 1) Sony comes out with an A7III that really does AF well with Canon lenses in the 300-400 range. OR 2) Sony comes out with native 300 and 400 range stuff.

I was kinda hoping the A7RII was going to satisfy #1. But it looks like it doesn't. So I think I'll stay put with my current 2 system kit.

The 100-400L II is tugging at me a lot harder than the a7R II is right now.

Same here.

In somewhat related news....Pulled out the 6D and the 100 Macro this evening. Started off as an exercise in photographing the gear, but ended up finding a couple of brown widows in the yard on my way out to bring in the trash bins.
In all this Sony hype, I do forget how capable the 6D is focusing "in the dark"...

i'm not a multi-day backpacking guy so i guess it's ok for me. I only do random portrait works(not everyday, i hope so) and 8 hours of wedding sometimes. if we go out of town with family, usually a max of 3 days only.

Do you think it's find for those kinds of stuff? otherwise i'll return it on arrival. hehe i thought it's all aluminum, why heavy?

They may not be crops, but they are craps; in the sense that they put me in danger of crapping my pants. Scary looking. Are they equally venomous to a black widow?

Just read about them...Venomous, but not dangerous like black widows (due to them not being able to deliver much toxins at one time).
Figures. It's 10pm, I'm outside getting the trash bins, and I spot these guys and drop everything to go grab my camera and tripod. Most people's reaction would be rather different, I assume. :)

Puckman=awesome arachnids! You know we keep one as a pet so I'm partial to them :)
David A's got balls of iron, don't let him fool you with fears of little dinky spiders! Actually I've spent a lot of time in the woods and the spider is one of the few things I fear--not bears, not snakes, not lions, not even mambas. I seriously respect spiders because you sit down, take off the backpack and innocently place your hand on a log and WHAM you're hit--problem is you don't know your hit....2-3 days later I get a call looking for anti-venom as the skin begins to slough off :)

OK, back to the A7Rii (TBO=the big one). I've been playing with different lenses. So far the 400DOii is good, the 300 2.8 IS II is good, so I try the EOS 135mm F2 and CRAP, can't get it to focus at all. I give up on it and try the Tamron 24-70 2.8 and its rock solid in AF...BUT an anomaly, here is a pic of the boss but what is causing the feaky purple color in her hair:

I hear what you guys are saying.about longer lenses and the need to keep a canon. Personally I don't shoot longer lenses. The 135L is my longest lens but I could easily have an 85 as my longest for what I shoot. This is making a complete switch easier for me. Soon the batis 85 will be my longest lens
