+1 Scroll down the page in this link to read what Colby Brown recommends for that purpose.

So, this morning I had the time to test all my Canon mount lenses on the Sony a7rII. Here are my results but bear in mind that I'm using a Metabones III adapter so I'll want to redo these when my MB IV has been replaced.

Lenses I own that AF well and much faster than on my a7r:

  • Canon EF 17-40 f/4L
  • Canon EF 24-105 f/4L IS
  • Canon EF 70-200 f/4L IS

Lens I own that AF well and quickly once focal distance is roughly set (pre focus manually.)
  • Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS (ver. 1)

Lens that AF's but intermittently or not at all at full zoom.
  • Canon EF 100-400L IS (ver. 1)

Lenses I own that do NOT AF
  • Canon EF 85 1.8
  • Sigma 35 f/1.4 ART (I've read others have AF with this lens but I don't know what the differences are that allow it.)

Medicine Man, my Sigma 35 ART focuses fine in MF mode using the MB III. I'll test it with the MB IV when it arrives.

Sigma 180mm Macro needs to use contrast detection.
400mm DO is funny. Does not want to AF at near distance. Will work with either contrast or phase at distance, however. Only Contrast detection will work with the teleconverter at a distance. Close focus requires using the manual switch with or without a TC.
70-200mm f4 L IS works fine and fast with phase detection. Also in contrast mode.
500mm f4 L IS only works with contrast detection, same as with other Sony a7 series--tracks out, then back and finally clicks in.
800mm f5.6 L IS works fine with Phase, does do much better when it is near focus to begin with.
12-24mm DG HSM II Sigma does fine with Phase.
That's it for today in checking the working of lenses. I thought I would have the energy to go shoot the lifeguard competition, but it is hot, we have passing thundershowers and I am energiless.

Canons to the left, Canons to the right,
We hold our L glass toward the light,
Digitizing in a snap reflective glory
That will forever tell our imaged story.

  • YFI, my Metabones III has just been updated to v0.41 by Metabones. 35 art works great but my 85mm 1.8 hunts.

Yeah based on what people are reporting here , it looks like the common denominator in terms of what works and what doesn't is whether the lens was manufactured before 2006 or not. This is a metabones limitation, so I wonder if other adapters work better?

i.e., it's mentioned here that the fotodiox adapter is actually faster than the MBIV...the lenses he mentions are all older lenses:

    https://instagram.com/p/4gTSH7CII9/ (external link)

and the corresponding video of AF on the first version of the Canon 24-70 f2.8 (which was made in 2002):

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvdiJSzVodw (external link)

Does anyone happen to have this adapter?

Thanks. That's encouraging news and hopefully, I'll be able to use this lens on AF when my MB IV arrives.

From this morning. Camera mounted 580EXII flash + mini softbox used for this shot. This is about a 50% crop.

Gene your macros are getting better and better. Love the last one...curses to you again for showing what the FE90 can do.

OK first video (1080) from the A7Rii, shot on yesterdays hike to the waterfall. Probably will be boring to most. It's 1:25 long-
    https://www.youtube.com …wz14NiLE&feature=youtu.be (external link)

My next step is clean the contacts on the 35mm Art AND check firmware of the MBiv.

Is anyone else super pleased with the ISO of the A7Rii ???

More than I expected to be. I haven't really put the high ISO performance to the test, but based on what I've seen so far, I'm very impressed.
