Is there a way to get that focus magnifier thing to work on non-electronic lenses? Some kinda of "shut up and do it anyway" option when there is "no lens attached" because I am using an old dumb Helios lens.

So eye start AF is a feature that starts the autofocus process as soon as you bring your eye up to the viewfinder....it only works with adapted a mount lenses. (I think the automatic pre-focus feature is what's used in lieu of this with E mount lenses).

The feature I was using is eye-focus. It works on the a7II, however, only in AF-S mode. It's still a very useful feature on the a7II if you have a static subject.

I don't understand. Where is eye-focus? I don't see that in my menus. (Searching again)

Guys, which screen shield are y'all using? I have the GGS glass screen protector on my a7R and has worked well. Not sure if there is something better for the new a7RII.

^Digital, I have always used a screen protector but someone on FM had an issue with one. I think he believes it helped or caused/exacerbated delamination of his screen. That said I've got one on order...
I went with this one hoping for a fit:

I am using this: it's a Sony product intended for use with the Sony product.

I've used the sister model PCK-LM16 for A7R and A7S and it protects the screen just fine.

A quick test shot at a gas stop.
No surprises here - one thing to keep in mind is that now that there is IBIS, be sure to turn it off before tripod mounted shots. Something I didn't have to think about when using A7 or 5DIII.

Eye focus itself isn't in the menu, but you do need to have face detect on. Eye focus by default is mapped to the center control wheel button by default. Once face detect finds face with the AF area you've set, hold down the center control button (or whatever button you map eye focus to), and it will further refine the focus down to the nearest eye.

StudioAbe now you remind me! Arrrrrg. Working on 1200+ pics in ACR from a timelapse this evening-ON tripod and I didn't turn off IBIS....crap....at least Canon lenses 'know' when you tripod bound and act accordingly.

Here are a couple of high ISO shots.

Also, I spent more time playing with low light AF with my 24-70 f2.8II adapted. I'm now confident in the AF so long as I use anything other than selectable point - small. Medium or large work well. The selectable AF point is kind of deceptive when set to small, as its only really focusing on a single phase detect point (which is smaller than a DSLR phase detect point) in the middle of the AF area. This often is too small of an area to find sufficient contrast to AF with, leading to all sorts of AF issues. With medium or large, it will use an array of phase detect points to focus anywhere within the AF area selected.

Ahh.. now I get it.. I was always wondering why you were talking about going to a gas station to take photos.. :)

I mentioned it on the FB group, but I'm moving back and forth between a lot of Canon IS / Sony OSS and non-OSS lenses, so I mapped IBIS to C2. Works really well there for me.

Go ahead and laugh at me now, but if I'm using a non-Sony lens and the lens I'm using has IS should I disable IBIS in the A7rii ???
I'm thinking yes or you wouldn't have made it so quick and easy to get to on the C2 button.

You would actually leave both the lens IS and IBIS on. The lens' IS will stabilize pitch and yaw. IBIS will stabilize roll, x, and y.

Thank you! I finally figured that out after some googling. Not the most intuitive thing (Sony and menus...never been a good match).

Cool high ISO shots. Liking what I'm seeing so far.

I turn off the Canon IS on the lens and let IBIS take care of stabilization for all lenses.
I turn IBIS off when on a tripod (have it mapped to C4, for quick access).
