More Smooth Reflections fun, this time 4 30 second frames. The B25 got so much work on this last trip...really glad I added it to the bag.

I've yet to use any of the apps since I re acquired my a6500, but images like this make me scratch my head as to why Sony removed apps from the upcoming a9. Between having no smooth reflections and time lapse and no picture profiles there's some questionable decisions being made.

Well I only use a wide angle for groups more than two people. I actually did a couple with the 50 mm and it turned out pretty well.

Full body and all.

I just need something for families bigger than two people and I used to use a 20 for Sigma for it and it was fine to be honest but yeah I think I may want a 35 I just don't like my options. The 28 mm seems perfectly fine since it's only 450 bucks. More than I would like to spend on a low budget lands but seems like it would be good enough to get the job done

I have enough for the Sonnar 35mm tho and they have it in stock at a local store ._. I may just get it and be done.

group shots is where normal and even telephoto should be preferred. Most of the time, if I'm assigned to do groups, I'll do 50mm or longer. it tends to keep people the same sized rather than have the front bigger than the back. Of course if your back is against the wall, then you have to go wider, but you tend to plan for these things.

I picked up the FE 35/2.8 a year or two back, and it's been my defacto always on the body lens. I got it for 450 second hand, and even at that price, I feel it's overpriced, but I guess if that's what people will pay for it, then it is what it is. if not for the totally unique size, I would probably just shoot with the FE 50 f1.8. The totally unique size allows me to fit it in a belt pouch so small, that I can keep it on my body at all times. Even though the FE 50 is the same weight, that extra inch makes it uncomfortable to clip on a belt, therefore the 35 is my defacto lens.

I kinda want a macro lens and can use my 55mm for groups I suppose.
I just miss having a wider lens for walking around its just all this crap seems overpriced for what we get.

Maybe I'll just get some lighting and call it a day.

Please forgive my posting a non- Sony image here but I hope you'll understand my excitement about this photograph.

Very recently, I was contacted by a 2nd cousin I never knew of before through ancestry.com. Her grandfather was my grandfather's brother. She was able to verify a photograph I had from another person was indeed my great grandfather. This is the first time I've ever known what he looked like.

So, I wanted to share my edit of that photograph and ask if you have any comments about the edit, I'd appreciate hearing it.

Gene, this is awesome. I like the conversion. Very nice detail retained.

From SAR

Cameta interviewed a Sony manager and here are a few news:

1) First he confirmed that they are working on new telephoto lenses
2) More weather resistant than the current A7 series cameras (you can shoot with the A9 in the rain)

And now to the very bold claims we have to verify in real life yet:

1) Canon lenses will autofocus faster on the A9 than on Canon cameras
2) Almost the same High ISO performance of the A7s
3) Says the A9 suffers of less overheating than the competition

Interesting that it will focus Canon lenses faster than on Canon cameras....but I wonder if they managed to overcome the other issues with adapted lenses...poor low light performance, random crashes, etc. I'd like to see some real world feedback on how the a9 does with adapted lesnes.

Also interesting that it will have the same high iso performance as the A7s....makes sense though since that new stacked BSI sensor should have less read-noise than the a7s sensor.

I didn't realise they removed the apps, that's a really strange choice. I love smooth reflections app to the point where I've hardly been using my Lee filters

Apps are great. Apps in a "Playmemories" store sound like toys...not professional. If only Sony would change that idiotic name and take a more serious approach (and make the store work better).

I find I get the best results when using both the app and filters. Especially if I want really smooth water.

It wouldn't be so bad if they had at least built in time lapse and other features. Apparently it will have remote shooting built in without having to use the App for it, so why they can't just add time lapse and others I don't get it. There's speculation that if enough people complain about S-log and picture profiles that they might add picture profiles back into the camera. I actually see them holding off, waiting for an a7sIII/a9s to be released first, then it being added into the a9 a few months after release via firmware.

looks good to me. Just the balance of the black border bothers me lol. They are not even especially the left and the right.

This is very interesting statement... but adapted lens performance depends on the adapter... so unless they give some magic source code to metabones or sigma, this performance is up to adapter makers.

The Fe mount is a controlled open standaef and sigma is one of the companies on the list of those that were given the source code. I think that this is how the mc-11 is possible

Well I bought the 28 mm so I had some extra cash to grab the flash is I need which is most important right now. Shot a few shots earlier and seem pretty good but I have to get them on my computer to really see.

I should've wore a cinematic style stuff so that wide-angle affect is kind of what I need and I like the 28 so far more than the 24 I have
