Well just made the fatal mistake of looking through the 35 distagon group on Flickr. Seems like it's a really special lens. The out of focus areas are really smooth and it's got nice pop. I think I'm pretty sold now in the absence of an f/2 option

Eddie, which 35 lens are you considering?

Ah gotcha. Yeah the one with AF. Looks really nice albeit it's a bigger lens. 35mm is one gap in my lineup that I would love to fill. Problem is I need one that excels at landscape, architecture, and environmental portraits. The Loxia 35 is great for the first two but not the third. I think the Sony FE 35 f1.4 maybe the best choice. Looking forward to seeing more.

Yeah 35 is the missing link for me too. I'm hopeful the FE 35 will be good for landscape too, got a bit of research to do on that front. It may mean I don't need the contax 35-70 if the FE35 is decent

For me, cost isn't as much of a factor as normal for a fast 35mm because it would replace both the CV40 and the FE35 2.8 - I haven't looked into the used prices of those lenses but I'm sure it'd be more than half of a FE35 1.4

I'm looking at the mc11 and 135A thread on FM, native seems like a fail based on a few responses. I think I'm just going to keep MBIV + 135L. No native, but reliable for me.

24-70A will pass, but looking squarely at the 28-135, dont know why I forgot about that lens, a true video lens, with the FL I want....

I would kill for a native 35mm f/2, whether it's a G, GM, Batis, I don't care. Make it a compromise between the tiny 2.8, the massive 1.4, and charge $999-1,199 for it. If it renders close to the RX1 lens even better. But we know that won't happen since it would take away sales.

Make it like the 85 that just came out, it's killer and reasonably priced.

Whelp....so much for that idea. I'm sticking to native glass.

Took the kids out to the church bazaar today and brought the Sigma set-up along. It fair better in good light, but oddly enough it will still fail from time to time in bright light. It does not like back-lit subjects, but sometimes if fails for no imaginable reason at all. And its just slow...there's this little pulse that the lens does when its really out of focus....its the contrast detect not working as quickly as it should. The pulse is probably half a second long, but its long enough to miss a key moment.

Lock-on focus worked surprisingly well though.

Definitely AF-C. Those little movements your subject's make can mean the difference between focusing on the eye and focusing on the eye lashes. AF-C eye focus basically corrects for those minute little movements.

Thanks everyone.

Alfredo - looking at the Sony FE 35 1.4 distagon

Thinking might sell my FE 55mm and Laowa 12mm and get one. Probably best to stick with new in case it's a bad copy. Unfortunately it has a bad rep for QC. But, I'd like to give it a solid try even if I have to make a return or two.

I'd definitely use it for land/cityscapes, but it's no Loxia or Batis at infinity from all I've read. But, it's a super-duper street lens for my needs, and the FE 35 1.4 ZA just suits me better for that than any other lens I've tried.

Hate to sell the Laowa, but I think I can get by with my Batis 18mm as my wide lens (stitched panos when wider is wanted). That would wittle my kit down to just four lenses: 18mm, 25mm, 35mm, and 85mm. Four great lenses in a nice range that are easy to carry and have superb performance.

That is not making me want the 85GM less...there are two lenses I really want right now, the FE35 f/1.4 and the 85 GM...I have been looking at long lenses and right now I just don't need them as much...or use them as much...

I rented the new Tamron 150-600 this weekend, the season finale double header for the kids tball, my niece was playing in her season ending championship softball game....so I had the use for it...it was awful adapted on the Sony...so the Sony stayed home all weekend and I got re-acquainted with an old school shutter an 8+ FPS...

I went into London last night on the underground to try and get a few shots. This one has been done a million times but I wanted to do it myself -
