High ISO shots are the thing I crave most from the a7R II. Really want to see how the BSI sensor helps out.

Go ahead and laugh at me now, but if I'm using a non-Sony lens and the lens I'm using has IS should I disable IBIS in the A7rii ???
I'm thinking yes or you wouldn't have made it so quick and easy to get to on the C2 button.

mystik610 wrote in post #17661662 (external link)
You would actually leave both the lens IS and IBIS on. The lens' IS will stabilize pitch and yaw. IBIS will stabilize roll, x, and y.

I think that's the scenario when using a Sony OSS lens. With non-Sony lenses, I doubt that the IBIS and proprietary lens IS would coordinate so nicely.

I forgot about the high iso performance - this happens to be set at 6400. No sharpening, no noise reduction, all settings at zero on Lightroom; camera calibration set to camera standard and white balance corrected. Closeup is 100% crop.

Equal to or greater than the A7S ?
Matters not. The ISO performance of the Rii makes F4 lenses beyond capable.
Not only that the Rii can work at 5000-6000 ISO but that 8000 and 10,000 clean up so well=GAME CHANGER for such a huge sensor.

Jap. im set to get one myself. I need this camera as it simply is the best thing that happened to mirrorless since inteoduction of the A7 & A7R. Good that i have no pressure, so i will eventually get one off the bay in a few months when David A. Is going to sell his because he likes the 5DS more :p

Hiked to the top of Beauty Spot on the Appalachian Trail this evening (Vin, tomorrow I can e-mail/Dropbox you the ISO stuff you want, just say so) hoping for a Sunset. Where I live is seemingly constant rain/cloud/fog/snow/ice/sleet-well you get the picture. We went up here the last 3 evenings and socked in, but tonight not a great Sunset but at least we saw one! Sad new. Poof launched the Drone and 30 seconds into flight it developed a mind of it's own=GONE.
We'll look for it this winter, too many timber rattlesnakes (saw a dead one in the parking lot at the trailhead) and brush too thick to look for it now. Maybe gone forever.
Anyway, first timelapse with the A7Rii. Still shots via my ancient Nex-6

how does it compare to the A72/A7r? I find that with those bodies, I'm comfortable up to 6400, it's not the noise I'm concerned about, but the destruction of color. Carlo's shot of his daughter is really clean, however that's just one shot and maybe really good processing. I find it difficult to recover from bad colors, the 6D really shines in that regard.

DF 'David A. Is going to sell his because he likes the 5DS more' I predict the opposite. Mr. Arbogast loves (my observation) the most advanced/cutting edge...soon enough he'll realize he's got a huge sensor from olden days :)

Charlie- I'm an infant when it comes to processing, so if you like the colors I'm getting you're golden with the Rii. I don't see a huge difference between the Rii and the 'standard' (A7R) but that's me (and I dont hear well at my age either).....I did do some pixel peeping (shame on me), the Blue Jay I shot before we headed to the mountain for the timelapse, and I did notice loss of detail via the LR sharpening. I can easily live with it though and truly believe this is a body that ---say I forgot and left it at ISO 5000--- I could live with at a high ISO. I don't do streets, my nearest neighber is 30 min's away, but for a street photographer throw that A7S away!=silent shutter/high ISO/high burst/IBIS/min ISO-shutter setting/4K Photo/it goes on and on and on.

Seriously David Arbo, get the Rii !!! See the difference. I'll buy you a beer (or sugar-free tea) when we finally meet just to hear you say in person it was a choice of old-timey but huge sensor (5Ds/r) or the most consumate all-in-one camera ever made.

OK brothers of the A7x thread, just a wee bit of vodka post hike so cut me some slack :)

^EYE opening!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The world of high ISO has changed forever.
Sony can never catch EOS glass, and Canon can never catch Sony sensors.
Now it's up to Metabones to meld the two worlds.
Awesome vid Charlie.
Vin, I think there is no need to send you high ISO files.
