I'm buying the Neewer Battery Grip so I look like the Photographer on a wedding. Anyone has it? any issues?

There have been reviews that say that it and the Vello grip work intermittently...whats worse, not having it and not looking like the photog...or looking like the photog while you struggle to get something to work and miss a key moment...for me...wasn't worth it...bought genuine and am happy with it.

Pulled the trigger on a new camera pack today...after my last trip, I was just not happy with my Lowepro that I have had for a while, and my Dakine that I love can't carry enough sometimes...so I went with a Mindshift Backlight 26L...should be here before my next outing in a couple weeks.

Thanks for the replies folks! Just as I suspected it sounds like peoples experiences with Eye AF are all over the board. I have had it work in the past but have never been terribly impressed. Perhaps there was something very weird about the lighting last night that resulted in complete failure. Regardless, outside of posed portraiture I cannot see how this feature could ever be considered a game changer. Moving forward I'll probably keep it assigned to my AEL button but Will have Low threshold for aborting in favor of small auto focus point if not working. Carlo, I have used it in both single shot and continuous. Can't say I've noticed much difference.
Thanks again!

Yeah should have added I use it in AF-C 100% of the time. But yeah unless it's decent light and straight-ish on it struggles. I still love it though as it's often quicker to use eye af and frame my shot than move the focus point to the desired position. I've got a lot of shots that I would have lost if I spent the time movingn the focus point

It works well for events too...I've found it very useful for weddings. It just won't really fast or complex motion.

Eye focus seems to perform even better on the a9:

Yeah eye focus typically won't work if it can't see both of your subject's. In those instances where my subject's head is turning a lot, I toggle back and forth between eye focus and regular focus as needed. This is a big reason I like being able to map eye focus to that extra button on the GM lenses....it requires less finger dexterity lol.

my limited experience with eye aF .. Is basically the same as whats already been stated//

works awesome for posed shots where both eyes are in full view , and the closer the better , like head shot type is ideal.. the further away the less it seems to work ,, movements make it frustrating to use.. so yeah
defintly not for street shooting, or quick candid moments of the family or the action shots at an event .

but.. that being said ,, I get why some make a huge deal about it .. at 1.4 or 1.2 or whatever crazy shallow dof type shot... its super easy to think you got the shot only to get home and see the eyes are not super sharp instead you got the bridge of the nose or whatever .. and so you start taking multiples , and double check and triple checking etc etc... eye af works awesome for those type posed shots

Yup! This is why I always checked the shot with magnification on my canon cameras. However, things are different with the smaller (and quite frankly crappy) LCD on the a6500. I can barley see anything on that LCD. I review all images through the EVF but it's still not the most detailed when zoomed in on an image. Oh well, that's the price I'm willing to pay to have such a portable kit!

I really should figure out how to post the raw file so you pros can show me how to make this look right. I think it sucks The assignment is to highlight the rock as part of the environment i.e why did Frank Lloyd Wright place it there

It was freaky being there before opening. My buddy the archaeologist got to STAY in one of the rooms. For me it was just amazing as my day job is in Development / Construction. In fact one of the architect firms we are using is founded by one of his last students and he actually was on the campus building it with Frank. I also am fascinated by his personal photographer.... a local Mesa AZ guy who's dad said "go ask this guy Frank if you can take pics"..... started him on an amazing journey being Franks personal photographer then going into the hey day of Better Homes and gardens and beyond to other artists. So between the Architecture history and the Photography admiration.......PLUS my love of petroglyphs........ I was not thinking well cause I wanted to absorb where I was....... Just think of the brain trust that has come out of the design room below......fyi in the very back left corner is the man who did the renderings for Frank for something callled.... The Guggenheim Museum lol.... he liked my small camera!

i had a paid senior portrait yesterday. we've waited for the right time for the sun to hide a bit. just as the right time came, the autofocus of my 85GM was acting up. it won't focus. it will focus then when you full press, it will go out of focus. it was acting for almost 5minutes. i was so pissed off as the mom was watching me looking like i didn't know what i was doing. i tried turning off. i tried to removed the lens and put it back. nothing works. as some point it just work again..

here's a couple of unretouch images. they are fraternal twins.

That sucks man. Yes its the worst feeling in the world when gear acts up in the field. I wonder what happened with the lens.

tested it again when i got back home. it still works. sometimes though i can hear a different grinding noise. I'm familiar with the initial grinding noise issue. this time it's different. it now sounds like a metal. it happens usually when i'm way out of focus then i start focusing. it's making that sounds. I wanna turn it in for a checkup/repair but the warranty ended up last month. I wonder how much it is for that issue. my friend who broke the front element of his 2470GM ended up paying $725.

Are you a member of Sony Pro Support? They might be able to offer you a loaner while the 85 GM is in repair. A friend of mine who sent his GM in for repair was able to get a replacement to use during the one week it took to fully repair.
