Apologies in advance - this has absolutely nothing to do with a7 cameras - but if you haven't taken time out to watch the Squirrel photography video currently highlighted on Flickr, you need to do so. Just about the cutest funniest photography video I have ever watched. :-D

lol hilarious. I wonder how he got the squirrels to pose with all that stuff?

The FD 50 looks good Carlo. I'm with Eddie. I love using my FE 55 for shots of my son too.

Posted this on the other thread:

Here is a workaround in post processing for the hot pixel issue, which happens on dslr cameras too. Courtesy of a thread on FM.

Guys, i have a question. Im heading to sicily tomorrow and simply cant make my mind up on what taking with me. Usually, i dont carry so much with me but i feel i need the lenses lol.

Planning on taking both A7R and A7S with

CV15, CV40, 24TSE, 70-300L and FE90.

Theyre all pretty different lenses and i imagine to photograph things there with all of them. The problem is my bag is full and i fear it might exceed the weight limits of hand luggage on the flight.

Which lenses would you leave at home? I am planning to shoot astro (milkyway), seascapes/landscapes, street life and a music clip... damn so many opportunities and enough time. Lol never complained about too much time before :D

Opinions?

DF I hope Advaitin chimes in on this, he's got so many big trips/safaris under his belt he is master at getting camera gear on a plane.
One thing he told me before I headed to Africa was get a photovest and load it up....they don't weigh you or your clothes. I'm sure my vest had 10 pounds of lenses/batteries/cables etc.
We've got a trip coming up in October and I'm using a similar approach but using mFTs kit and just accepting the fact that I'm aging and just don't want to suffer the load any more.

One thing I liked on the Fuji XT1 was this Fuji tripod plate - http://media.cameraworld.co.uk …g-xt_small_front_view.jpg (external link) . The plate is made the same shape as the base of the camera and is arca swiss compatible.

Has anyone ever seen something similar for the A7x? Its sort of like an L bracket without the side section. I know you can split L brackets and remove the side portion but was hoping for something a bit more sleek looking (like the Fuji one)

This looks exactly like the Neewers i got for my A7R and A7S when the die section is removed. There are, however much nicer looking ones i imagine.

That doesnt look like its the same footprint as the camera to me, it looks smaller (or is it just the way the shot is taken?)

Either way I should have said no RRS in my first post. thats crazy money for a tripod plate

The reason I wasnt wanting an L bracket with the side removed is because it looks like something has been removed. The Fuji plate looks designed as opposed to adapted if you get what I mean

Am I the only one who doesn't understand those whose biggest negative is that the a7rII not being able to AF Canon lenses as well as a Canon body? I mean it would be one thing if Sony promoted the fact that it could, but the ability to AF better than previous generations has more to do with better PDAF which impacts native glass, more so than marketing it directly to Canonglass.

I mean maybe I don't get it since I don't own a Canon glass. But the disappointment that It doesn't AF non-native glass as well as the native camera company seems odd and silly. We're we expecting this to AF better than a Canon to spell the demise of Canon? Is it just me?

Well, I think it is because Sony glass is overpriced and just not as versatile as the Canon glass available. Once there is a proper affordable but decent line of full frame Sony glass, this would not be an issue any more.

Give it 4-5 years and maybe people will be buying Sony glass for their Sony cameras. The odd thing is how Sony just have not plain hacked/reverse-engineered the Canon lens firmware....or is this just plain illegal?

Nope you're not the only one. I feel the same and it's why I posted about it earlier: https://photography-on-the.net …showthread.php?p=17660917

Well Sony was promoting this feature by actually demonstrating Canon lenses on the a7rII at the announcement...so while it doesn't appear in any official marketing material, they were indirectly promoting this feature. But yes I think its unfair to admonish the a7rII because AF with some EF lenses (mostly older lenses) don't perform as well as a native Canon DSLR. This feature is more of a bonus than a core function, IMO...its a bone that Sony has thrown us. The camera performs well enough and offers enough to stand on its own even without the ability to AF adapted lenses.

For the record, I've spent a good amount of time adapting the 24-70II, 70-200 2.8II, and 50 1.8STM, and I'm finding that the AF is more than adequate enough to replace my 5DIII for my uses. I don't shoot sports or wildlife, nor do I own any super telephoto lenses, but its more than good enough to shoot portraits/weddings/events.

Technically metabones/viltrox/etc are the ones reverse engineering the AF signal. All sony did unlock the phase detect AF for non FE lenses. Technically this was to allow adapted A-mount lenses to use the phase detect sensors, but they opened the door for just about any lens to do that same.
