Yes, but then being able to write their own firmware options on their own Sony processors when a metabones/canon lens is attached would solve *some* of the issues maybe?

I mean look at it...it is only an SPI device anyway!
Hacking the bloody things should not be overly hard with a single serial I/O. I am edging more toward Sony will not do it as it would kill their lens sales...

If it isn't too late. The camera and heaviest lens around your neck. As much else as possible in a vest. If you don't have a photog vest, then any small camera bag for the rest. If it's no bigger than a woman's big purse--and there should be plenty of those to point at--they usually say nothing. They will weigh your carryon bag., despite it being the right size, so camera gear in it will usually throw it over limit. At one airport after being weighed as over at counter, got out of line and removed stuff, filling my pockets and so forth 'til it met limit. Then, as soon as I was around the corner, I put it all back.

Once had head hostess tell me I couldn't bring dedicated camera bag on board, I told her it wasn't going in hold. Faceoff. Finally she let me go on board.

Well, I think it is because Sony glass is overpriced and just not as versatile as the Canon glass available. Once there is a proper affordable but decent line of full frame Sony glass, this would not be an issue any more.

Give it 4-5 years and maybe people will be buying Sony glass for their Sony cameras. The odd thing is how Sony just have not plain hacked/reverse-engineered the Canon lens firmware....or is this just plain illegal?

I for sure wouldn't call the Sony glass "overpriced", it's more that they only have high end glass at the moment (except for the kit 28-70mm). I think Sony was smart to tackle the enthusiast glass first (though I'm still waiting for a nice 100-135mm prime) and then start putting out cheaper alternatives later (I imagine this is their plan).

I don't think anyone would argue that the Sony FE lenses aren't great lenses... they simply are.

Give it another couple of years, I bet we'll soon see their take on a cheap pancake prime, 70-300mm and some form of a standard lens (nifty fifty).

DavidFarina's Hadley Pro bag should go through fine. Still a good idea to have the heaviest camera/lens around your neck for weigh-in and until you get on plane.

Definitely cheap enough but doesn't look like you can get the battery out without removing it. It also looks like it's part of the l bracket assuming you can add the other bit separately so it will have holes on the side. Perhaps it's only Fuji that do the style I'm after

No this is a bottom plate only, based on the image. The slot for a handstrap goes to the left where you would find holes for the upper. I just took a look at mine (another design) and the screwhole is in the same place in relation to the battery door. It goes to cover the Ser. No. plate, but no farther

This is probably old hat to everyone...and totally off topic I suppose...but I just tested the free "Play Memories Mobile" app on my Galaxy s5 and the "Smart Remote Embedded" feature on the a7rII to control the camera by my smart phone. While it's very basic, what I liked...and just tested is that I can set the camera up next to my hummingbird feeder, aim it and switch to "movie" mode and go back in the house. There, while sitting at my desk, I can view the scene shown in live view on the cameras LCD on my phone's screen. If I see a hummingbird land for example, I could then press the "record" button and video the hummingbird as he is feeding. I'm sure there are lots of other uses but I thought this was pretty cool to view the camera's LCD on my phone and control the camera from this distance.

Here is a screenshot showing my feeder as seen through the camera using my FE 55 at f6.3...who needs a long lens? hah! :p

Gene do you plan on extracting a photo from the 4K vid? I hope so.

Do you mean from the feeder video above or a future video of a hummingbird? (hopefully)

R2 with Canon 85mm L II f1.2 @ f2. Phase detection works as fast as on a canon. The 85 L has never been a fast-focusing lens. The first image is AF with face detection. The second image is manual focus with magnification on her left eye. These are crops, of course--otherwise SOOC.

Would you be able to shoot a self portrait recreating the expression you wore during the Faceoff for us to study and emulate?:twisted:

I was gone nearly all day, delivering daughter/grandgirls and one of their friends to a cruise ship. First shot is elder grandgirl in restaurant with mixed window light and tungsten.
Second is the whole group at dropoff, which I cropped. Otherwise, both shots are SOOC with the 24-240 Sony lens
