i meant on the body of the mirrorless, with the A6000 and the A7RII(if i'm not wrong), there's a focus assist. The A7RII went for a service.

On you mean the lamp on the camera itself? I actually have mine switched off.

This is different from the AF assist beam on the speedlight though.....that system is firing infrared beams at the AF area of the camera to create contrast around the AF area in low light. This is more necessary for a pure PDAF system because of the WYSIWYG nature of pure PDAF.

The contrast detect AF in the likes of the a7rII is using the ISO boosted image on the sensor to focus. The effectiveness of the system is tied to the sensitivity of the sensor itself...this is how the a7s(II) is able to achieve an AF sensitivity of -4EV. The a7s as a whole basically has night vision.

I do wish the autofocus assist beam did work for the a7 cameras though...only because it would probably significantly help low light AF with adapted lenses.

Has anyone here tried to the AF with the metabones IV latest firmware...the one that allows native AF? Siggy 24-35 actually focuses really well on the a6500....I'm wondering how Canon lenses work with that metabones firmware. I have the old metabones III.

Horrible, but it can AF in video. Only tried with 135L, does eye focus but generally bad at AF. In non native mode, generally good.

dont have 24-35,

But Canon 24-70, native AF mode horrible, 24 end somewhat usable, 70 range forget about it
Canon 50L, very erratic
Sigma 150-600, better stick with phase only, or MC-11
Sigma 35, stick with MC-11
Canon 85L, don't even think about the Native AF mode.

DLSR lenses don't like hybrid AF, better to keep the metabones in normal mode, phase only works much much better.

Thank you! 5 images merged in Photomatix Pro 6. Additional editing in PS CC and Color Efex.

Beautiful Alfredo. NW Arkansas is pretty, but I think you're going to really miss San Antonio. :)
