I think vinz's photo shows otherwise? From the looks of the background it looks like a wide open space with dark walls...not good for bouncing so anything that can give your speedlight a larger surface area will help.

Gary gongs stuff is overpriced for what it is....
So is everything else related to photography.

Yep ... that was what I was saying, more-or-less. Just in a round-about sort of a way.

It's argued (vehemently) elsewhere in this forum that the Gary Fong diffuser only works when there are light surfaces to bounce the light off (and that seems to make sense in terms of basic physics). Unless there is a white wall behind the photographer, that's clearly not the case here. But the light is well diffused.

Hey folks....My sensor is filthy! This seems to have happened much faster with the mirrorless camera than any previous DSLR. In fact, I've never had to clean any of my canon sensors. I did a quick internet search on how to clean it and was a bit overwhelmed with the results. So I'm asking you people.....Do you clean you sensors and if so, what's your preferred method? Thanks!

Well yeah like all modifiers the effectiveness of something like the lightsphere is situational. Clearly it worked well in vinz shot so I don't really get where you're coming from?

Gary fong gets a lot of flak because his stuff is expensive....but he gets a disproportionate amount of hate when you consider that other modifiers are basically just as expensive. That isn't to say these expensive modifiers, be it Gary fong or otherwise, aren't worth the cost...particularly if you're going to use them at something like a wedding and you need something that is durable and quick to set-up in really hectic environments.

My modifier of choice is the flashbender....40 bucks vs something you can create the same effect with foamboard and hair ties....but I've had mine for three years and I can shove it into a bag or pocket easily and slap it on my speedlight on and off quickly.

Same with softboxes....I'm about to drop a lot of coin on a rapidbox today because the frame on my cheapo octabox broke from being knocked over by the wind one too many times.

you can probably find in a search in this thread, but I'll go ahead and repost my cleaning method. First supplies based on my purchase history:

loupe with light: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0091SS310 (external link) you need to see what's dirty and this is a fast way
blower, just a rocket blower, sorry no link
sensor brush : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001B9RI5O (external link) linked the full frame version, so find your correct size
wet cleaning: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K8MTQGY (external link) linked the full frame version, so find your correct size

cleaning order
1. Blow every time you change lenses at home, keep your sensor clean so you dont need to go further methods
2. Sensor brush if object not removed, set camera to cleaning mode before doing this
3. Wet clean if object not removed, set camera to cleaning mode before doing this

I generally try to avoid 2, and 3 but wont hesitate to do them.

Beautiful Alfredo. NW Arkansas is pretty, but I think you're going to really miss San Antonio. :)

Thank you David. Yes I will definitely miss SATX. I think it's underrated for it's unique architecture. Many locations are easy to access making it possible to photograph. I will miss the Riverwalk because it offers so many photo opportunities.

So you're really making the move? Yes SATX is a very cool city when it comes to the architecture. No lie I'd put it up there with Chicago.

So I got a very short notice for this photo shoot ..
for my Sons friend , hes developing a clothing line ..
anyway , grabbed my gear and went

624 pictures taken between the a7sii and a6500 using 16-35 and 55 mm and 2 360 lights

The pictures are fine , considering these are non pro models , and I had no time (literally 3 hrs notice) to think about things
the quality of pics , I'm very disappointed in
not sure what i'm doing wrong ,
heres a quick BTS shot just to give an idea of environment .. ceilings were super high and grey

sample shots to come in a few

Thanks Charlie for taking the time to write up that post! I didn't even think to search this thread for discussion. I just didn't want to buy a bunch of Random gadgets and go to town cleaning without asking me advice of the users here on this forum.
Thanks again!

No axe to grind ... the Fong thing seems to be working very well in this shot. I'm just surprised, given the negative commentary that I've read. But there's no denying the image in front of your face.

If it can produce this kind of result, I can easily see its appeal to an events photographer even if the price seems high for the object that it is. Same argument would hold for the Flashbender.

It's a shame you're moving from SATX before finding that $3000 in silver coins from my 3rd great grandfather that Jose Salinas hid in the walls of the San Jose Mission. ;-)a

For those who don't know, here's the story:

"Soon after James Hodges, Sr. arrived in Texas, he made arrangements to purchase four leagues of land situated in the forks of the San Marcos and the Guadalupe Rivers. Jose Maria Salinas of San Antonio de Bexar who had received the four leagues (17,712 acres) as a special grant from the Supreme Government of the State in 1827,agreed to sell the land for $3,000 in cash. Salinas would not accept the gold which the leader Hodges offered, so they had to travel to New Orleans to exchange it for Mexican silver dollars.

As the story is told, at the time Jose Salinas sold his lands, there was already unrest in San Antonio, and the threat of war between the Texas settlers and the Government of Mexico. Fearing that his recently acquired $3,000 in silver would be stolen or lost, Old Salinas, telling no one of the exact location, buried the bags of silver somewhere within the walls of the San Jose Mission. Soon thereafter, and before he could reveal the hiding place to his family, Salinas took sick and suddenly died. It has been said that over the years, many a hole has been dug on the grounds of the old mission. However, the silver has never been found. Jose Salinas chose his hiding place well!"

Of course, there's a lot of places to look for those sacks of silver within the walls of the mission.
