Thanks for your input..
my choice in lens was 16-35 f4 or 55 1.8
face detect and eye focus were not being very reliable.. it would pop up one minute then disappear the next and go OOF ..
and so that's why I kept 5.6 and higher at one point, so that I would have more in focus .. that was my logic maybe not the best one..
I know that both my a7sii and a6500 can produce excellent quality photos with lots of details..
The problem I seem to run into , and again -- User not camera.. when ever I have these high pressure type shoots be it events or portraits or whatever , everything seems to go wrong..
I cant seem to change AF quick enough ,
i find that if i use zone or wide face or eye detect work better.. i think..
but then sometimes i cant get what i want in focus
if i use spot , face and eye detect will detect but then switches to spot..
for this kind of high pressure (for me ) shooting , i miss my canon 5d3, for myself i felt it was easier to work with under pressure(i have pics of events from when i had it ,, and what a difference in quality .. again not cameras fault , but my current inability to use them quickly )
when i'm working at my own pace , and i have time to think about things , i can get the sony's to produce very good quality ..
I've been very disappointed in my pics of family events / affairs since i switched..
couldn't be happier in the video and cityscape photos area..
There is a reason a 24-70 F2.8 is the goto event for events. When I goto family events, I bring my A7Rii, I set it up in what I call Point and Shoot mode (1/125, F3.2, Auto ISO, Auto WB, Large Spot - with my Canon 24-70 F2.8 II). I do this because I really don't take any pictures myself, but I have a brother in law and his daughter that love to use the camera and just keep shooting. I have shown them how to move the Large Spot around the screen. I recognize that the A7Rii likely has much better AF than the A7Sii so maybe that is something to think about if photos are more your thing (it also takes great video). The above settings are not remotely perfect, and I would never shoot these exactly myself, but they manage to get lots of keepers from our family events.
A camera that doesn't focus lock quickly, exactly when you need it to, is useless in my opinion.
When I look at your gear, if it was me personally, I would swap it all for an A7Rii with a 24-70 F2.8 - I think you will much happier.
