Yep basically gives the same setting as the a6300/6500. Im very happy about this upgrade. What a weird time we are now in - Sony getting their act together with pro support and repairs and now giving firmware updates to fix actual user issues! Who would have thought

I wouldn't mind trying to become a member of the Sony Pro Support program but doubt I qualify or can find my receipts to register my Sony gear.

I only have one sony body so I dont qualify. I have been wondering lately what the UK version of precision camera is? I wonder if a repair over here would go as smoothly. Touch wood I dont need one any time soon

Yeah I didn't want to bash it either but....from a controls standpoint it would be the equivalent of Canon taking the 7DII, and giving it rebel controls....harsh but true.

Technically the rx1rii doesnt qualify....neither does vinz's a6000. It does not seem that they are too rigid with the requirements at the moment.

Couple months back I bought Tiffen variable NDs for my Batis lenses. They're really great and I recommend them for photography.

Main downsides are somewhat less usable range at 25 and 18mm (7 stops at 25, 5 stops at 18), and the outer ring means not being able to attach the hood, but the IQ is very good. A LOT easier than messing with my Lee bracket system.

I ordered an a9 today. Feeling really uneasy because of the cost even though this is funded by gear I'll sell/have sold. But the right move given the jobs I've been taking on.

I think you're going to learn you just made a GREAT - a very appropriate - choice your needs. It's better than a D5 or 1DX II for a LOT less money, and it's got serious solutions any wedding photographer should want in their body. In some respects you're not just buying camera, you're buying an insurance policy for: 1. Nailing the shots you have to get, and 2. Keeping your shots if you experience a memory card failure.

I disagree with you thinking the a9 is more camera than you need; it's exactly the camera you need.

Now pardon me, have to step away from POTN to walk over and photograph a waterfall with my awesome a7R II + Batis kit. :D

I sure like the idea of an ND filter BEHIND the lens so that one size fits all, but as far as I know, there is only the Fotodiox FE to EF adapter with the built-in variable ND filter. I'd love to see a variable ND filter that sits between a Sony FE lens and a Sony a7xx body.

You don't get the dreaded X problems? I got a variable ND for the 24-70, and the X skies are unusable.

Congrats pre. Exciting.

Thanks guys. And yes I think you're right David. I've been trying to rationalize not buying it but it really is the best tool that currently offers for the job.

In other news....Sony Pro Services comes through again. The email came super late but I requested this yesterday...apparently I should have an a9 to test today

Absolutely. A behind-the-lens variable ND is the ideal solution. Unfortunately it's not a practical physically-possible solution for native lenses.

Yes, the x can appear. That's why I referenced I can get about 5 stops of variance with the 18mm. But, in conjunction with SR app it's quite powerful.

You definitely have to take care and note the limitations. What I do is know the focal length limit in advance and count off the stops as I dial in the variance.

You guys see the kingfisher image samples with the 100-400mm GM lens? Looks really sharp. Looks irresistible to me. :)

Nice series Vinz. It seems like the w/b is inconsistent for the rocks in the background though.

i added a little blue on the shadows. kinda split toning a tiny bit.
