You're getting good advice already here Eddie. I've taken about half a dozen images with AF on the A7 so I'm not really experienced enough to have an opinion on that side of things.

I met a buddy of mine today at Cathedral City next to Palm Springs. A spillway is under construction for the Eagle Canyon Dam being built over the past two years. I had hoped to get a few photos there as well as downtown Palm Springs but the weather was overcast, unusually so. Here are a couple of photos I did take after the concrete pour.

Here is a video describing the dam and it's importance to the desert commmunites. The last person seen in the clip is my ex boss.

I personally enjoy shooting in overcast weather a lot more than the harsh sunny conditions we usually get. :)

That's interesting stuff out there, Gene. I need to get my ass up to the desert one of these days. Lots of things to shoot out there.

Things were just a monotone this morning so I just couldn't get very motivated. I want to get a few shots of the Palm Springs Air Terminal too so I'll be back...and before it starts getting too hot over the summer.

One more.. these two gentlemen were our primary inspectors for this project.

County Inspectors are happy. The job is nearing the end...

The colors in this one are great! Which pier is that? Don't recognize it.

manhattan beach. It's really nice there, lots of photo ops, and photogs in general.

I need to hit that up one of these days. I don't think I've ever photographed down that way.

I consider it a perfect sunset pier. Redondo, Manhattan, and Santa Monica, all west facing piers, and fantastic for sunset. Santa Monica has got to be the best, just so much to shoot, manhattan and redondo both good, with manhattan having the edge since it's an actual beach with people in the water. Redondo is last of the bunch, but by no means bad either.

I agree about west facing piers for sunset. I need to get some shots at the local pier, but the clouds have always disappeared on the days that I have went.

Yeah. Santa Monica's been on my radar for over a year. It used to be my old stomping grounds, so I know every nook and cranny there. But that was before my photog days. I have not had a chance to go back there in a while (it's so damn far for me, and I hate the traffic in that direction).
One of these evenings, I want to go catch the sunset, then shoot that ferris wheel too.

Yeah, I always think of GTA V when talking about Santa Monica Pier... I'd love to check it out sometime.

I've also been to a lot of great spots in my younger days before getting into photography. I guess I have an excuse for some more traveling. The challenge is that my wife and son get bored when I'm out shooting and it's hard to take the time I'd like.

Had a little bit of luck just now. I spotted that the shop I bought my 24-70 II from done a 30 day return policy and when I checked this was day 28! I spoke to them and they are happy to return the lens.
