if they dont, will pick up the another one down the line. Really missing the 135 myself. Samyang's seems epic IQ, however, the size of the canon FD is much smaller.... would be a tough decision.

Have been curious about the Samyang. But the FD is fantastic. I see no reason to trade that for anything else.
The FD seems ridiculously sharp even at F2. I don't have too many shots to share from it since I mostly have used it to shoot the wifey (camera shy).

I'll try to find a couple of samples.

Here you go. Both taken w the FD 135/2 at 2.8, I believe. MF seems to have nailed the eyes pretty well.

There is a phone app called dslr remote that uses the IR led on your phone (if you have one) to do longer bulb exposures.

I am going to reverse engineer it when I have time and make my own smaller remote with certain features.

Nice one, would be interested in your results. A bulb timer would be killer, I love that feature on my 5DIII with magic lantern.

On another note just in case you were not aware if you use this cheap remote - http://www.amazon.com …erid=114YXCEYP9D2CEPZVH03 (external link) - in bulb mode you press the button once and the exposure starts and you press it again and it stops i.e. you dont have to hold the button down. This saves having to connect by phone and worry about your phone battery power etc.

FE 90mm f2.8 + a7rII

Undecided if I should get one of these for myself or not. Phenomenal optic, but for loosely framed shots the focal length is too short and/or the aperture is too small to throw distracting background elements out of focus like a 'proper' portrait lens (fast 85, or a 135mm or 200mm lens) can.

On the other hand, I've never really shot macros before, and this might be a good gateway into the world of macro photography.

Yeah, I could always use one of those and put a transistor across the switch to electronically trigger the shutter...but I am feeling an IR solution for a smaller unit and I will try find as many different IR codes as I can for the unit. Who knows....maybe they put aperture/ISO control in there as well for future use?

Well...the trigger code seem fairly simple for the A7s via IR.

The code in decimal is: 4294967295 which is FFFFFFFF in hex.
There seems to be a burst of 4 "FFFFFFFF" signals when I click both the app's button.

I will try and repeat this so it sends the 4 bursts and try and nail down the delay between bursts to get it to trigger. Seeming as the bursts are all FFFFFFFF meaning "full on" for each burst, timing may not be of huge importance and the thing is simply triggered as soon as it sees 4 closely spaced IR signals.

Actually scratch that...I seem to pick up other data which may the the "real" packets:

When hammering the S button on the app, I get lots of the 4 FFFFFFFF packets but occasionally a B4B8F packet..which may be the one I want.
Also when hammering the 2S button (I assume this is some other function? Maybe the "end exposure button?") I get loads of the FFFFFFFF packets but an occasional ECB8F packet.

Nice one Johnny, Im not sure what all that means  but its got my attention as it sounds like it can lead to good things

Doing some further hot pixel checks with the A7RII - Just tried a 4 minute exposure with the Lee big stopper at ISO 100 and there are no hot pixels at all with LENR OFF - Result!

I will post a video in a minute.
Basically it takes about £5 worth of components to build your own IR remote. If you know anything about arduino coding or AVR programming or ATMEL stuff...you can pretty much add some nice features. I already have an idea that would be a nice implementation hehe.
