If you can create a wireless bulb timer you would be on to a winner. I'm sure many would purchase one. I've got an arduino and all the components required to build a barn door tracker but haven't got round to putting it together yet. Saying that though I'm a novice to coding these things and am basically following an online tutorial for it. I was supplied the arduino sketch by someone on potn

I could write a bulb timer script in about an hour for this. I could make one with an LCD screen with a few buttons (or even a 10 button pad) to give basic features.

Here you go. Both taken w the FD 135/2 at 2.8, I believe. MF seems to have nailed the eyes pretty well.

you nailed it perfectly. nice.

Undecided if I should get one of these for myself or not. Phenomenal optic, but for loosely framed shots the focal length is too short and/or the aperture is too small to throw distracting background elements out of focus like a 'proper' portrait lens (fast 85, or a 135mm or 200mm lens) can.

On the other hand, I've never really shot macros before, and this might be a good gateway into the world of macro photography.

it certainly fun for macro. for a paid gig portrait, i would go outdoor and make sure the background is really far. If the location is really nice like an awesome white beach, i personally don't like melting the background away. It doesn't make sense going into that place then if you'll just throw it away with a creamy bokeh. my preference.

but you're right with "loosely random frame shots with distracting background, it's not a background eraser like the 135mm or the 200mm.

Well for environmental portraits where I want to pull the background into the frame, I'll reach for a 50 or 35...so it falls into the category of not wide enough either.

I dunno...the lens is kind of awkward for portraits for me. Personal preference though!

It is a very good 'casual' medium telephoto though. The macro ability gives you a lot of flexibility in terms of working distance. 85mm lenses are usually a pain to work with outside of controlled portrait shooting, since the minimum focus distance is pretty far.

I actually picked up some auto extension tubes on Amazon for $25 and going to see if they'll work as a low budget option for when I want to get close.

Excellent Eddie :) Glad its getting used!! I've just spent the week with the FE35/2.8 and aside from only being 2.8 its been nice having a small light lens the whole family can use on these occasions.

the reason i choose the nikkor 135 over the samyang 85mm(returned), the MFD is really far on the 85. I'm sure it's the same as the Batis 85.

In Photoshop, you can import a video clip as "video frames to layers". That way, you can make a frame animation from those layers. Here's one I did using a clip from my touch-tip lighter video. This is just the wand being struck. I've slowed the animation down so that each frame can be seen. This was originally 3840 x 2160 (4K) but I reduced the size to 1280 x 720 so I could post it here as a .gif.
