I've got my finger hovering over the "Add to Cart" button on Amazon for the 21mm UWA converter for my FE 28mm... does anyone have any first hand experience with it? I'm curious to know if it's worth having in the bag or not... I feel like it's not something I'd use often, but much like a Fisheye, would be a great thing to have for those few times I need it.

I like mine but then again I don't shoot a lot of wide angle. The 28 was the first lens I picked up for the a7rII. To be honest I've been using my 24-70 he majority of the time since I've gotten it since I have kids and the simplicity of a standard zoom is nice to have. And since I recently rebought the 55 as well, I'm using that the 2nd most.

So far I've used the 21 attachment for about 70 or so shots. I'm satisfied with it. It's nice to go wider than the 24 when I need to. Since you already own the 28, I say go for it. At this point think of it as a $250 21mm lens.

If you're shooting a lot of wide angle though, the 16-35 is substantially better. Doesn't fit my shooting style so I wouldn't get it. But if say you shoot wide a lot, then re 16-35 is going to make more sense than the 21 attachment.

The best part for me is that you don't have to fiddle around with the menu to activate the converter like you have to with the Fuji x100 ones. Countless times I forgot to turn it on or off. With this one it's done automatically for you. The lack of being able to attach filters is not a big deal for me.

More shots from my kiddo's shared birthday. All shot on the a7rII with a mix-up between the EF 24-70II, FE 35 1.4, and FE 90 f2.8:

Thanks for the input!

The FE 28mm is already my favorite lens, but I don't usually shoot wider than that either (though I do enjoy using a 24mm sometimes). I'm just thinking it would be handy to try, I think part of the reason I never shoot wider is that I never have... lol, you don't miss what you don't know.

The ZA 55mm is also on my short list... though I'm thinking I might just get a C/Y Zeiss 50/1.7 instead for the time being, since now they can be had for under $200 and are supposed to be one of the top manual lenses out there, especially given their size and weight.

Hmm... now that I think of it, I could get both the 21mm converter and the C/Y 50/1.7 for less than the cost of a used ZA 55/1.8...

Another from the Natural History Museum

I just realised I haven't changed the battery in my A7rII yet. I got the camera on Thursday night and have been using it since including chimping and checking menu settings etc. It still has 42% left!

The short battery life of these cameras is greatly exaggerated. I can go an entire day of shooting, chimping and even using the WiFi and still come home with %20 battery life. The only thing I can think of is that people must just be leaving the camera on constantly without turning on the power saving function and expecting it to work like a DSLR would... which is just silly, the thing has 2 very high resolution monitors on it, obviously if you leave it on all day the battery is going to drain. Thankfully they wake up from sleep and turn on pretty much instantly, so there's no reason to turn off power saver or to even keep the camera on unless you're actively shooting.

I'm trying to emulate a film noir look from the 1940's. I think I'm going to need at least one more light. :-) For this shot, I used a single flash in a 24" softbox fired straight down and a reflector to kick some light towards my face. The rest is all pp.

In this edit, I did add a Venetian blind cookie in post.

I've got it on airplane mode and turn it off fully when not I'm use. I must have taken about 500 photos so far

I never turn off my WiFi, I use it too often to bother, still get fantastic battery life ;)
