Using the EOS 100 2.8 L with a softbox on the Nissin i-40 put a piece of grey foam board behind him for the capture, detail
fo the Rii made the foam board look 'noisy', so denoised to smooth it out.-

I have the opportunity to get a multicoated Voigtlander Nokton Classic 40/1.4 for $360 shipped... go for it? Or go with my original plan; keep using my Oly 38/1.8 and FE 28, supplement with a C/Y Zeiss 50/1.7 and keep saving for the ZA 55/1.8 (if I'm not satisfied with the 50/1.7)?

You can always sell it if you don't like it.

i have a focus screen on my 60d and with the rokonon 85 1.4 i could focus ok but not nearly as well as with focus magnify on the a7,i don't use peaking often but even that to me is better than the focus screen at least for me anyways.

That's a very solid point...

Def. 35, got the 55, just that focal length rarely does anything for me. Go wide or go long.

Well for environmental portraits where I want to pull the background into the frame, I'll reach for a 50 or 35...so it falls into the category of not wide enough either.

I dunno...the lens is kind of awkward for portraits for me. Personal preference though!

It is a very good 'casual' medium telephoto though. The macro ability gives you a lot of flexibility in terms of working distance. 85mm lenses are usually a pain to work with outside of controlled portrait shooting, since the minimum focus distance is pretty far.

For portraits I'd take the Batis 1.8/85 over the FE 90mm F/2.8 Macro G OSS any time, any day. So far I also haven't seen any proof that the FE 90mm F/2.8 Macro G OSS is sharper than the Batis 1.8/85.

i think with sharpness they're close. even if the batis is a bit sharper, it can't do macro. MFD is even farther on most 85mm. Bokeh though I'm sure the batis wins but I just got out of being obsess with bokeh now. The 90mm will force me to shoot at 2.8 which is good(for me). Tested shooting at my usual shooting time or ambient and I only need to go up to ISO400 which is nothing for all the A7 cameras.

I'm more into sharpness and macro capability. now if i win lotto tomorrow, i will order all the FE lenses including both the Batis. :)

So the offer didn't work out on the Voigtlander 40mm... :( I didn't take his counter offer and he didn't accept my last offer (thought for sure he would) so I can't move on that anymore... but it worked out for the best I think because before I even made an offer on the 40mm I made an offer on the C/Y Zeiss 50/1.7 that I figured would be way too low to accept, the seller didn't think so! :) Should be here by Friday.
