I remember a time not too long ago that many of us here said that using the Sony A7x series camera put the fun back in photography for them because it gave them a small, light setup that was easy to take along. Oh how soon we forget. ;-)a

That's where I'm at (hopefully for good). TSE 24 II for landscapes and not a lens I carry everywhere. Then my carry everywhere kit of CV15, fe28, fe55, batis85(when in stock). Normally I stick to a 3 lens walkaround kit but have allowed myself to go to 4 with the sony due the weight and size savings I'm making. Only thing I can see me changing is the fe28 for the batis25 at one point down the line

EdIT - to completely contradict the above I am also thinking about buying the rokinon 24mm which will stay in my landscape bag with the tse :)

^^ Nice job Vinz. One thing I've tried to soften the effects of the extreme sharpness of the FE 90 lens is to add a diffusion effect like I did on this portrait:

IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/xMdhdN (external link) Light and color (external link) by Gene (external link), on Flickr

I did that by duplicating the image layer, adding a gaussian blur and changing it's blend mode to 'screen'. Then it was tweaked by reducing opacity and using an adjustment layer to further refine.

or maybe reduce clarity in LR by about -15?

I'm sure there are many ways to diffuse an image. I want to try the old school method of stretching a nylon stocking over the rear element of the lens.

It is not light - quite heavy in fact - but my Otus 55mm remains my absolute favorite lens to limit myself to. That thing is so special, has such amazing performance, works so well with my a7R, that it serves as a confidence booster. If I could I would recommend every dedicated photographer to acquire one truly special and exceptional lens (for each person's unique needs and vision). For my part, I don't need every one of my lenses to be amazing so long as I have one that is.

It's funny how other lenses suffer sharpness and here we are discussing about how to reduce sharpness. Haha

Quite the irony! I don't think I have any lenses needing panty hose ;)

when it comes to landscapes, weight is not a big issue for me, so not necessarily a contradiction. I pretty much never carry around the rok14, 24-70, or 70-400 for instance, but those are my landscape lenses. I would carry the 11-24 in a heartbeat for that occasion as well.

for my daily carry, I have a considerably different set. A few weeks back, it would have been just the CV40 and 100MP, but more recently, been playing with the CV12, nik50/FE55, and 100MP. I will probably pick up the FD135 again, since it's fairly small with high performance(I miss the 135mm focal length).

Simple: be creative.

Not enough zoom? Try to get closer with your feet. Still not enough zoom? Crop in post.

Also, sometimes you'll just miss a shot for whatever reason. It's nothing to be ashamed of. Just remember that the world doesn't end if you miss a shot or a shot doesn't turn out the way you wanted it to. Keep that in mind and you'll be fine. :-P

Sounds to me like this same logic could be applied to your endless search for the perfect camera to upgrade to ;)

Well, I know what I want and what my deal-breakers are. There is no perfect camera, but I won't upgrade to a camera which has a deal-breaker. You don't want a camera with mediocre/bad high ISO performance and that's perfectly fine. I just don't want compression artifacts. Different people, different values. And thank God for that, otherwise there would only be one camera on the market. I'll just be creative and keep using my 550D for now. Besides, since the beginning of this year the stray cat hasn't shown up anymore. About half of my pictures were of him. I think I haven't even taken 100 pictures since the beginning of this year, so getting a new camera is really at the bottom of my priority list. A new camera is rather a "want" than a "need" here. Luckily I'm pretty good at fighting GAS. ;-)a

Vinz, one difference of using a diffusing technique is that soft, glowing skin look. While it's not something you'd want to do all the time, I think it can add to the mood of an image occasionally.

Here's my rendition of your edit adding a diffusion look. I also adjusted the levels a bit too.
