A little more progress today. Luckily I can easily adapt the electronics to use the cabled remote possibly...
Also just had a few of the wired remotes arrived and took one apart...crazy simple to be honest ha! I was expecting some complications from sony like some kinda protocol for various things but nope...literally a switch. Kinda happy but also somewhat dissapointed at the same time.

I have hooked the wired remote up to the camera and using a very fast tap with a biro end to try and see if the bulb mode can shoot faster than 1/10s...and guess what?

Nope.

What on Earth are sony thinking limiting the BULB mode shutter to 1/10 s. I want at least 1/125.

This could be a very disappointing result for bramping techniques...

Great job Eddie, well worth the effort invested.

Thanks gene. I think the a7rii has some issues with long exposures (after initially thinking it didn't) but it seems bracketing is the way to avoid the issue so I can live with that as otherwise its superb

I am so struggling with this switch to Sony.

I used to have ..... Canon 1dmk3 / Canon 6D - 150-500 / 50 1.8 / 100L and still have 16-35f4IS / 70-200 F4IS / 24TSEv2

I picked up the A6000 last christmas to learn the sony system. and picked up the sigma 19/60 2.8 arts for it..... love it

Picked up the A7r in spring to commit ..... and then sold it with the majority of the canon stuff for the A7r2.

The 100L and 16-35 were the mainstays. I replaced the 100L with a Vivitar Series 1 90 2.5 "bokina" which is still hard to grapple with but I do love the lens and will put it up against almost anything.... especially considering that I got it for 250 bucks.

I bought a used 28-70 because they are cheap and DxO tests show it very close to the 24-70 version ... again 225 bucks vs a lot more.

I just received the CV15v3 and initial feeling is it is way different than shooting the canon 16-35 ... i.e. really no dof great lens just not what I was expecting but then I probably didnt know what to expect. I will probably keep it and sell the 16-35 because i really dont shoot 'much' above 16 with that lens.

I was going to pickup the 70-200 f4 sony but am grappling with the fact I need a solid wildlife lens.... but for the most part it will be mounted to the A6000 and that is only 25% of my shooting.

So I start to feel that I am switching my gear and improving the camera but only minimally improving / maintaining the glass. I start to reconsider my whole kit and realize I need to have tools I want to cover the gambit.

I am thinking today the kit would look like this:

A7r2; CV15v3; TSE24v2; 28/2 (buy); 55 1.8 (buy) Viv 90 2.5 and I have a couple of FD lenses i play with MF on

A6000; 19 art (sell 60) buy the 55-210 !!!!

This leaves me longing for the long lens set up I would want but I think it is a solid set below 90mm I think the 70-200 is just a big play when I could wait for a better 300mm solution.

I look at that then I realize that Xpfloyd set up is .... so close on the A7r2 set up LOL.... so Eddie are you comfortable with that? and are you looking at a longer lens set up?

I was actually reading this there thinking this sounds like me until I got to the end and realised you were asking me :) personally I am very happy post switch. I have ordered the batis 85 and I am waiting on the stock arriving. The 85 will be my longest lens and for me I can live with that. The only thing that has came as a shock in the last couple of days on holiday is that a 28/55 combo is getting me 95% of everything (excluding landscape) that I want. To the point where I was wondering if I actually needed the 85. So to answer your question I think a setup of cv15, 24 tse, fe28, fe 55 and 90 is perfect. However you may not shoot the same stuff as me.

Cool thanks,.... Yeah I still will need long for wildlife but as the sony environment matures I am sure there will be better options than locking into the 70-200 today and this solidifies a solid bag for everything else.

The 85-135 range is intriguing to me but I rarely ever shoot there for some reason.

Thanks.

I just sold my 135L as part of the transition. Whilst I loved the IQ of that lens I can definately live without the focal length. I'm actually quite glad I don't really need anything beyond 85mm as I can see that the sony lens lineup is lacking in places

[QUOTE=navydoc;17696843]Nice low key lighting Vinz. To me, it seems as though there is almost too much detail for a female headshot while this would be perfect for a male.

Here's an alternate look if you don't mind. using a glow effect and then blending back in with the original.

(Oh, and before I forget, great job on the tattoo removal too)./QUOTE]

Nice one Gene. Thanks for all your ideas.

Oops, i posted in the wrong thread haha!

Here is the right one..

Two from my vacations in granada, spain.

Gotta say, the 70-300L works great on the A7R, almost sold this lens! And the FE 16-35 is worth it too!

It was so hard to let that 6D go.... It was a trusted piece of machinery. For me the sony is making me do things to be a better photographer. I am letting go and learning so much more... .the Canon just sort of kept me stuck in safe mode. I think that is why I am having trouble letting the last 2 good canon lenses go.... they are trusted. I never held hope that the A7r2 was going to just carry on that trust with them. I am sure Canon will do things that will make me regret the move but for me its a move of education. Now that I have the CV15 i need to commit and sell the 16-35 and I just got an offer on the 70-200 so by next week I may be canon free..... save the TSE

Im frekin out

I'm not sure what edit you're referring to but if you mean mine, it was done in PS using layers. Basically, the image is duplicated on a separate layer, a gausian blur is applied and then the blend mode of that layer is changed to "screen". An adjustment mask is then added to this duplicate layer so the underlying darker original image can be blended in with the 'blurred' layer, around the eyes for example. A brush at a low opacity is used so the adjustment can be made a little bit at a time.
