Why buy a 35mm lens when you can have the whole camera

http://www.sony.net …eature.html?contentsTop=1 (external link)

The RX1R makes me excited mostly because it gives me hope that they'll release a line of FE mount cameras with a similar shape and pop up EVF... moar smaller is moar betta IMO :)

Oh. I didnt catch that it was fixed. So it's Sony's FF version of the Fuji X100T? I could get on board with that...Depending on price.
I REALLY enjoyed my time with the X100T. I took it everywhere (something that can't be said of the A7II or A7R2), it had a fantastic 23mm lens on it (35 equiv.) which made it very versatile. It was a great low light performer. Really, the only reason I sold it was to move into the Sony world.
So...yeah...I'll probably get this new fixed lens thingie. :)

(Hurry up and take my money, Sony!)

The good thing is you never need to change lenses or clean your sensor ;)

I liked my fuji x100s but mainly because its size, but for that the sonys are equivalent to me. Plus better IQ and FF. I felt the fuji x100s produces too sharp images. Not FE90 or Otus sharp, more like photoshop usharp mask cranked up sharp :) maybe im just too critical because its smaller sensor. I honestly will never ever go smaller than FF

Another way to think about it is that basically gives you an a7rII with a 'free' fixed 35mm f2. Assuming this uses the same lens as the rx1, its a very high optical quality piece of glass. Better than any 35mm made for their ILC's. If you're a 35mm guy, its a reason to be excited.

Apparently since the shutter is built into the lens, this thing has a 1/2000s flash sync speed.

But yes...very expensive.

Given how large the version II a7 bodies have gotten, there's definitely room in Sony' line-up for smaller FF bodies. Perhaps without IBIS to keep cost and size down. Sony a6?

Come to think of it...I don't see that the rx1rII (weird-ass name BTW) has IBIS.

RX1R2 - almost sounds like Star Wars R2D2 spin-off. A bit of Sony marketing at work? :p

I didn't see any mention of IBIS either, but then its not that critical with a 35mm focal range.

I imagine that that's how R2D2 got such a convoluted name. The original R1 droid is selling for deep discounts in the marketplace these days!

Yup. That's one thing I loved about the X100T. I kinda miss that camera.

Sony A7RII and a bunch of lenses.

I don't have any doubts that they'll come out with a smaller line of FE cameras, most likely a6000 style bodies, which I would love.

it kinda explains why there isnt a smallish 35mm F2 with AF, which is a glaring omission by sony. Didnt know they were keeping this lineup alive, but a smaller 35mm would have been better for us obviously.

Sony really needs a 35mm F2 as one of it's core lenses. Every camera system needs a fast and reasonably priced 28+35+50+85 IMO

From the git-go, I wished that Sony had made the 35 f2.8 a slightler larger 35 f2....but I think at the time they were really trying to showcase how small the camera can be.

As Sony's lens portfolio matures, I'm sure we'll see a nice balance of high quality fast aperture glass (that you will pay for in terms of size and money), and smaller more affordable options.....similar to the red ringed and gold ringed canon lens line-up.

Right now the lenses Sony releases are all over the place...sort of a shotgun approach of releasing lenses to try to simultaneously please the broad swath of consumers that they a7 cameras appeal to.
