From the git-go, I wished that Sony had made the 35 f2.8 a slightler larger 35 f2....but I think at the time they were really trying to showcase how small the camera can be.
As Sony's lens portfolio matures, I'm sure we'll see a nice balance of high quality fast aperture glass (that you will pay for in terms of size and money), and smaller more affordable options.....similar to the red ringed and gold ringed canon lens line-up.
Right now the lenses Sony releases are all over the place...sort of a shotgun approach of releasing lenses to try to simultaneously please the broad swath of consumers that they a7 cameras appeal to.
I'm with you on the wish for a Sony FE 35/2. I'm currently renting a Zeis Loxia 35/2 which is a great fit on the A7RII from a size and handling perspective. Its almost the same size as the FE 28/2, but heavier. The MF ring on the lens is butter smooth.
Many people will be turned off by the lack of auto focus and the $1200 price tag. I've only made a few test shots with it. At this point, I'm spending too much time tweaking the A7RII manual focus settings to comment on whether I like the Loxia 35/2 enough to buy one. It's hung up (for lack of a better term) on me 4 times now. When I depress the shutter, the camera goes dark, it appears to be reading or writing to the SD card, and it comes back to life in about 10-15 seconds. When I look at the SD card, there is no sign of the shot I just took. Very strange.
More to follow when I get more time and experience with the Loxia.
