If they have managed eye AF on adapted lenses I imagine metabones will eventually get there with a firmware update

guys somebody at local craiglist is selling a Tokina at-x 80-200 F2.8 zoom lens for $70 bucks in good shape Yashica/Contax mount. anyone tried it before? is it sharp wide open?

I bought one recently, posted some examples a few weeks back.

It's not quite as sharp as my Vivitar S1 70-200/2.8-4, but still sharp enough for my tastes wide open, it's also surprisingly not any heavier than the Vivitar, but a good bit longer. I haven't used it much yet, but I'm happy with it so far.

Here's a few examples wide open at various zoom ranges

vinz, you see tokina's new 70-200? nobody would even bother buying that..... tokina has a newer 24-70 F2.8, and I havent even heard of any talk on the lens. Tokina's reputation on zooms are pretty unknown, and probably for good reason.

Actually the 80-200mm AT-X is very well regarded for it's time, that's why I bought one (for a similar price to what Vinz found). Will it compete with a modern lens? Surly not, but it's also less than $100 for a constant f2.8 telephoto zoom...

When in doubt, I always browse a bunch of photos from the lenses flickr pool ;) https://www.flickr.com/groups/680796@N22/pool/ (external link)

thanks for the info, sounds like a good idea but poor execution. MBIV minus eye focus sounds like the ticket currently.

the 70-200 that tokina just put out scares me.... modern lens with horrible flare issues. I guess flare issues arent too much of a problem for an indoor type lens.

Don't know anything about the modern one, but the one I have is less prone to flare than my Vivitar is. All of the above posted shots were without a hood on a partly sunny day. They had some haze for sure, I reduced that via LR's de-haze function. I don't recall actually having any flare issues though.

Didn't realize you were already in Oz, Charlie! Have fun out there!

BTW, that CV 12 shot at LAX is pure money! That's exactly the kind of environment that lens is meant to shoot!
And now I want one! Add it to my list.

Currently, in order of priorities, my list looks like this.

- A small and fast 35mm. Leaning towards trying the new CV 35/1.7.
- An UWA rangefinder type lens (as stated the other day, I really want to do away with carrying around my EF glass). This means re-purchasing the CV 15 III or getting the CV 12.

Lower priorities:
- Updating my 50mm with a FE 55/1.8. Maaaybe (I do have this range covered by the 24-70 for now).
- Replacing the EF 16-35 with the FE 16/-35 (Not sure if I really want to do this yet).

So, I don't feel I'm too far away from having my kit sorted out.

Also need to sell the EF 24-105L since it gets zero usage.

Final edit on the DTLA bridge shot...Still not sure I like it.

A7R2 - FE 24-70/4 OSS.

My original version of this same scene, shot last year with the 6D and EF 16-35/4 is hanging on my wall and is a much nicer final product, IMO. I'm not sure what was missing in last week's version....

It definitely exhibits some CA, but any fast zoom of it's vintage will. It's easy to correct for in LR.

Is there any way to focus magnify a manual lens AND get ibis in the viewfinder at the same time? i.e. when Im using a manual focus lens I can half press for IBIS but when I magnify the half press cancels the magnification

That makes no sense. I have been running MF and IBIS together since I got the A7II and now the A7RII.
The 2 things are not tied to each other.

In the menu (or wherever you assign it to a button): SteadyShot ON = IBIS (and it stays on).
In the menu (or wherever you assign it in the custom fn): SteadyShot focal length.
Then I have the C2 button assigned to be focus magnify (or whatever it's called). So when I press C2, the scene zooms in to 5x, and then to 12x when I hit C2 again.
This does not cancel IBIS.

Not entirely sure what you're describing there.

With steadyshot set to ON my understanding was it didnt just run 100% of the time (wether MF or AF lens). I thought it only activated on the half press of the shutter button. Is that not the case? (Just like lens stabilisation doesnt run until you half press the shutter button)
