Not sure if this was covered earlier - sorry if I missed it.

Has anyone tested the new firmware in relation with long exposure shots (1-2 minutes at least) and the hot pixels issue?

yeah think im going to like it. I bought a macro adaptor for it that had elements inside (but not the one that normally comes with it) but I think i am going to return it. It gives me closer than 1:1 magnification when maxed out (1:0.6) but it also loses 2.75 stops of light. I have had a play around with it but its just too close for me just now. I think 1:2 will do just fine and I can always crop in post

With regards to my IBIS query the manual states - "The SteadyShot function may not work optimally when the power has just been turned on, right after you point the camera towards a subject, or when the shutter button has been pressed all the way down without stopping halfway". This sort of suggests that when steadyshot is switched on it is active all the time and not just on a half press of the shutter button (like an EF IS lens would be).

If someone knows for sure please let me know

thanks dean, the cv12 is so much win for me, love the lens, it's always with me in a small pouch. I do keep it protected since it's one of my few lenses that I shoot filterless .

I really wish it had electronics so I wouldnt have to scroll through the IBIS FL so often. I will probably upgrade to the proper E version eventually.

be forewarned, the 12 takes a bit of correction to do. The distortion is fairly good SOOC, but if you choose to do the profile in lightroom, there will be too much vignetting removal, and you have to add back the vignetting for the correction. You can save as a preset to lessen the headaches, that's what I do, 1 click correction.

Final edit on the DTLA bridge shot...Still not sure I like it.

My original version of this same scene, shot last year with the 6D and EF 16-35/4 is hanging on my wall and is a much nicer final product, IMO. I'm not sure what was missing in last week's version....

This shot would be killer when you would stand more to the right so the horizontal street/bridge would be more in perspective, with a wide angle lens. I hope you know how i mean haha

Can you post the shot from the 6D. Would be interesting to compare since i also had the 6D

when using a vintage zoom lens, let's say 70-200, do we have to adjust the steadyshot FL settings everytime we zoom? might be a damn question but there you go :p

i asked because the vintage lenses has no contact so the camera(IBIS) have no idea when we're zooming in or out.

With steadyshot set to ON my understanding was it didnt just run 100% of the time (wether MF or AF lens). I thought it only activated on the half press of the shutter button. Is that not the case? (Just like lens stabilisation doesnt run until you half press the shutter button)

I disagree. I'm fairly certain this IBIS is on ALL THE TIME once you turn it on.

Scientifically speaking
1) How would it know that you're zooming with MANUAL GLASS since there's no electronic contacts?
2) Take my FD 300 (or any long lens). Turn IBIS off. Point camera/lens at a subject. Do not touch any buttons. Watch the EVF or liveview bounce around wildly (since my arms are pretty unsteady, haha).
3) Repeat process with IBIS on...No bouncing around.

I think this happens even before you zoom in with focus magnification.

I think with native or electronically connected lenses, the camera is much smarter (and hence the steadyshot menu shows as "AUTO" and you cannot change the settings). In those cases, with FE or EF glass, the IBIS probably only runs when you're focusing or half-pressing, or who knows.

I'll post it tonight. No Flickr access from my work.

The Broad Museum in LA

I took a couple of shots of the building from outside during my DTLA walk last weekend. I'll post later. But wasn't too happy with the outside perspectives of it. Too much going on on that street. I have the same trouble photographing the Disney Concert Hall.
I'm wanting to go back to visit the museum itself. Looks kinda cool!

Sony A7RII and a bunch of lenses.
