Time for olympus to make a fullframe and let's all create a new thread. We'll all switch haha :). I heard a lot of good things about olympus.

i think they should make a full frame also, they were way ahead in technology,my em5 has eye left or right and smile full or half focus and 5 axis ibis and live time and many other features and that was in 2012,the om1 that the em5 was modelled after was a rock solid all metal camera in the 70s and many people still use it today as they last and last built like a tank,i have one on display. the new em5ii has a feature that it takes 8 photos moving the sensor each time and give u a 40mpixel image equal to full frame. the dynamic range on the image is better than most full frame cams,i don't have that cam but i am seriously thinking about it as they are only 800 here in canada. olympus has some great nerds working there haha, and just like sony they listened to the users, with the new em series they addressed all the short coming users asked and wished for.
i am by no means a professional but as a hobbyist i am blown away with the em series.since i bought this one used i haven't touched my canon or even my a7.i like this thing that much, theres also a canon to m43 adapter with auto focus,I've read mixed reviews on it,some lenses work well and some don't very similar to here haha. sorry if i sound like a olympus employee haha.

I also heard you can watch the progress in the LCD when in bulb mode. Like the image is slowly appearing, is that true?

yes live time does that, its awesome for night shots,u can watch your image expose to what u want, then stop any time u want, live comp is very cool to for light trails,u push the shutter it takes an exposure of your image then takes another image of only the changing light maybe a car or stars or something and u can also watch that expose and stop it where u want. it also has focus stacking for macro built into the cam. it also does what i want the sony to do,maybe the newer sonys do some one chime in if they do,
i want to shoot raw and jpeg large and i want a effect on the jpeg fiile and i want to see the effect while i shoot, the em5 does that,i see my effect in real time and it saves a jpeg of that and a raw with no effect of course.i love that feature

^A7S can do live bulb/comp with playmemories app Light Trails. Lost that feature with the A7Rii and that is why I also own Oly m10ii, I was jealous of the Mrs Oly m5ii....may someday Sony will port the app to the A7Rii.

thats a great question,i hope the a7ii and or a7r2 can do that,my em5does it,thats how i focus all the time with longer manual lenses on it.i found the em5 has technology in 2012 sony and others are just catching up on now. i hope sony gets live time as a firm ware update. what an awesome feature, live composition is even better but my em5 doesn't have it but the em5ii does,

ibis definitely works when zoomed or composing. Not sure if it's ever turned off unless you turn it off. No worries about IBIS, it works well. Biggest downside is 400mm, I dont think it stables as well as in lens, and noticeable difference.

i don't think it could be on all the time,i think that would kill the battery fast. on the em5 when i push shutter half way i can faintly hear ibis micro motors woking.i think if they were on all the time that would drain the battery. on my 70-200 f4 is i can hear the is on that also and its only when i half press the shutter, theres no menu for that in canon so i think half shutter isn't adjustable

your right, I just tested again, it's only on while half pressed/zoomed in/video mode.

Try it with your 200, and don't half press or zoom or anything. Just hold it up. Does it seem like it's on?

Naw, it's not on for sure. This 200 in particular is a mess. Being so light, you definitely see how jittery it is even without magnification, and when I half press, completely smooth. I couldnt keep thing thing still no matter how hard I try, it's a really difficult lens to handle. I aligned my grid lines at an intersection with a point on the wall. It was hard to keep the intersection and point lined up, but half press, and it's stable, and I have little issues of keeping it lined up.

This is what I'm finding. No press and its jittery, half press and its smooth which is what the manual suggests also. Which brings me to my original question how do you magnify with ibis if a half press cancels magnify?

Edit - this is in relation to a lens with no electronic contacts not an adapted canon lens

if you're in magnify mode, IBIS is always on. Half press, and you're out of magnify mode.

if you half press BEFORE magnify, then magnify in, you can snap shutter when you acquire focus.

either way, whenever in magnify mode, you'll have IBIS on.

Thanks charlie, that's what I was looking for. I was getting confused when trying it out as it was seeming stable when magnified which was then tricking me to think it was stable without magnify and without half press, but then sometimes it was all over the place when non magnified. It all makes sense now, thanks

I've been coming across a lot of old film glass at some local thrift shops and craigslist.

Any tips on some lenses to look out for?

I've had good luck with canon FD. EverydayGetaway seems to shoot a lot of yashica and similar. Charlie's gone through A good number of lenses. Just ask away.
