I've been coming across a lot of old film glass at some local thrift shops and craigslist.

Any tips on some lenses to look out for?

There are way too many good and bad lenses out there to just list away. Most lenses (especially if they're decent or good) will have some used feedback somewhere on the internet. What I would recommend is to poke through the MF adapted lens sample thread to get a basic idea of things too consider then if you find something you're not sure of, Google for a review of two of that particular lens.

If you have any questions about any particular lens feel free to ask, I've done more research on vintage lenses than I'd like to admit

Nicely done as usual Vinz. You might try to remove the bra strap so it won't be a distraction.

Wow, I just visited my Flickr page and the images zoom in much closer now. I have a 27" monitor at 2560 x 1440 and the images now fill the screen + when I click on them. I don't know if this is a new feature or a fluke but I like it. I'm surprised by the size of the zoom since I typically upload at 2048 X about 1366 so the zoom is more than 100%.

I should add that this works when viewing with IE but not Chrome at the moment.

I use both IE and Chrome. There are some things I like better when browsing using IE...

...and nevermind on the enlarged images. I must be hallucinating this morning.

I don't think IE is color managed. Firefox is with an extension. That's what I use.

Google the lens before you buy, also be sure to check for fungus and oil on the aperture along with other stuff.

Primes are generally the best but I have been surprised by a couple of zooms. Always carry extra cash or be near a ATM, I had a Nikkor 1.2L slip away because of this. They were just asking $100 for it, I wanted to cry haha

At swap meets I actually take a body with me to test lenses out, But I don't think they would allow that in thrift stores. They might think you're trying to steal a A7 they had in stock lol

I've had way better luck finding awesome glass at swap meets actually. Priced very very well. The thrift stores here are hit and miss. Sometimes they want a fortune for something worth $5.

Ebay is still my favorite place to buy lenses, yes you'll pay more but you won't haven to spend months to find something good.

In my 3 years of thrift store shopping I've never found any thing worthwhile, besides a QL17, but swap meets I run into a 1.4 once in a while and sometimes lot deals where they'll sell 4-6 lenses for $25. I've had three of those that turned out great.

Thanks. That's probably why I couldn't find anything. I was just kind of searching generally. I did find a Minolta 135mm f2.8 for $50 on my local CL, so may consider that.

there are many minolta 135's! you may hit a gem or a dud.

do a google translate on this: http://artaphot.ch …ive/171-minolta-135mm-f28 (external link)

basically you want the 4 element version. I think genesimmons posted a photo of one a few pages back. It's like an L lens, uses high quality low dispersion glass.

the focus grip has 6 rows of squares, which is unique to other minolta's.
