in america, I think 4K tv's are starting to become pretty affordable. Not in any rush to upgrade, however, I got my 60" plasma for 600 a few years back, seems nobody likes plasma, however I love it. I got it to hold me over till 4K becomes more solid.

Aside from the new highly expensive OLED TV's, Plasma is the absolute best picture you can get (including 4k LCD/LED TV's). It's a shame that they got such a negative stigma early on, they've improved them 10X since the first Plasmas. I'm tempted to buy another Plasma before they stop making them altogether.

10 years ago when me and my now wife got our first house together we bought a Samsung 42" plasma. Its still going strong to this day and is now in our bedroom. My wife wanted to get rid of it when we moved to this house 2 years ago as she said it looked dated (the speaker bar is visible along the bottom of the TV and its silver and not black like they mostly are now) but there was no way that was happening. Picture is still perfect to this day (and it was expensive compared to todays prices which was another reason I wasnt getting rid of a perfectly good TV)

Yeah, Plasmas are ridiculously cheap these days, that's why I'm thinking about getting one before they're all gone. Panasonic stopped making theirs a few years ago and they were regarded as the best in the industry. I got myself a 51" Samsung a few years ago and love it, my dad just got a 65" LG last year for $600 and it looks just as nice as my Samsung... really thinking about getting one for myself

metabones sw update

just tested

- 35F2, 35L, 50L, 85L, 200 2.8L
- 8-15L, 24-70 L II, 24-105L, 70-200 F4 IS L, 70-200 2.8 II
- Sigma 24-105 F4, 18-35 1.8

all seem good with no issues

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

Me sad, can't watch Gene's vids nor update Metabones :(
But Gene's vids would only make me want to replace the GoPro lost in our drone fly-away.

Averaging 500-650 pics/day here. Here's two from the patio before heading out, they sure look better here than
in a pet store. We're on the Osa and they are common here. Two more days on the water then we head back into
the mountains where I'll look for a Quetzal.

Gene, Your Stella photo inspired me to try one for myself. My other lager photo that I posted was pretty poor so I tried to mimic your shot and used my Tokina 90mm Macro. I couldnt really get the condensation to look the way I wanted and when I used my softbox to light the glass there was always a bright side in the direction of the light. In the end I blended two exposures, one for the bokeh background (LED christmas tree lights I had in a cupboard) and then a second photo at a longer exposure time for the glass.

Didnt get it as good as I had hoped but on the plus side I got to drink a stella on a tuesday night :)

Looks good enough to drink Eddie. I also struggled with the lighting on my shot until I realized it looked best just as it was, with light coming in from my bar behind the glass and window light striking the front side of the glass too. Fortunately I was already using a tripod so I shot a 10 second exposure at iso 100 and no flash to get it the way I wanted.

...being able to drink the subject after the shoot is always the best part.

I do. I still have my Panasonic 50V10E plasma TV (50") which I bought in April 2009 for about 2.000-2.150€.

To be fair, Pioneer originally had the best plasma televisions with their Kuro (external link) series. But after they quit making plasma televisions Panasonic took their crown.

AIUI the vast majority of broadcast TV in the UK is either 1080i or 760p so we are not getting the best out of our 1080p tv's as it is, so I agree this isn't the time to tie up money waiting for 4k at least for broadcast TV and the odd 4K Vid I might take with the A7R II 8-)

At this point in the journey I can say that with the exception of owling at night with the flash set up I could have done this whole trip animal wise with just the Sony. I know I never even thought of carrying the 7Dii+300/2.8 on the hikes we have done...its stayed in the room locked in the safe. I will use it in a couple of more days when I hunt more owls and need the flash.
