I saw some talk on Fred Miranda about a November update to Metabones IV that will improve focusing for the EF 200 2.8 ii. Anyone here have experience with this prime on any of the a7 bodies or the a6000?

I would love to keep it if the AF will be at all usable for sports. I've heard the Minolta/Konica 200 2.8 G with A mount adapter is currently the best bet for this type of use in that genre, but it would be nice to not have to spend even more money, sell, and acquire during my jump from Canon to Sony. Adding an a7R or a7ii soon, kinda waiting to see if prices drop during the holidays or for a can't pass used deal.

The 70-200 F4 OSS looks like a really good lens but the goal is to keep f2.8 if possible. Keeping a 200 2.8 lens will help absorb some of the blow of selling off the 135L, as I liked them about the same for portraits but used the 200 2.8 way more for sports.

Thanks for any input on this.

I have it and have tested on the latest .46 software - it works well. I think the 135L is faster but it is fine. This is on the A7Rii.

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

Great information, thank you!

BTW, the hockey pics I've seen you post from the A7Rii are fabulous.

i actually haven't tried the 200F2.8 at a game yet on the Sony so I will bring it out on Friday and compare it to the 135L

The ultimate mount?

Just experimenting with different ways to mount my GoPro + Came Action Gimbal. In this configuration, the tabletop tripod is just there for convenience to demonstrate on the table.

Just above the tripod is a flash bracket to mount my smart phone. With the GoPro app, I can completely control the camera + view what the camera sees although slightly delayed.

Above that is an extension arm to allow me to shoot either low or high by, uh, extending it. For the heck of it, I also mounted the GoPro Smart Remote there.

Finally, the Came Action Gimbal and GoPro Hero 4 Silver. This gimbal has a cable that connects it to the camera so the camera draws power from the gimbal thus extending the battery life in camera.

Overkill? Probably, but I can mix and match these items depending on my needs. It was a fun excercise to see what combinations I could cobble together for the "ultimate" mount.

The Pentax is way smaller, lighter and sharper in my opinion. if you buy make sure it's the latest version, the 6 elements. and it has a code under the Auto and Manual lever that says 43812.

I just don't know whether an 85/1.8 [at whatever f/stop it's useable at] will give me much more separation that the 90mm at f/2.8 - & I know I CAN use it wide open at f/2.8 no issues!!
