I'm probably going to snag a used RX1/R once the used prices come down a bit more. Have been thinking about it a bit more, and given that I already own the a7rII, the rx1rII is overkill for what would be a casual-use camera, and the RX1/R can be had used for 1/3 the price of the rx1rII brand new. The only thing I'd miss is the built in EVF, but it looks like the EVF in the MKII is the same in the rx100....and that thing is tiny!

That makes sense, since you're making great use out of all the lenses you have, especially the Batis and the whole interchangeable works for you. I've been enjoying your shots throughout this thread.

For me this past weekend made me realize that at this point in my life, an interchangeable system isn't ideal, no matter how small the setup. Taking my two kids around Hersheypark and other places around the area was a handful. Pushing strollers, chasing after my 2.5 yr old, packing up suitcase after suitcase hopping around 3 different hotels based on where we were staying, etc. The moments I had to shoot I was carrying around my go to backpack for shooting (my Mindshift Panorama) which makes accessing camera gear super fast. But still I would leave the 24-70 on the camera but regretted it indoors. Which made me swap to my 55, which was great but sometimes too long inside. Which made me consider picking up a 35 f/2.8 for the size/weight/width, but you see where I'm going with this. I could go on all day about which lens is ideal in which situation. If it was just me and my wife then carrying around a bag full of lenses wouldn't be a problem. Heck at that point I might've just stuck to my capable DSLR. If I just had my 2.5 yr old to deal with the I could see myself doing it. With 2 though, the size/space/weight/speed is at a premium.

While I could see myself cursing myself for the decision in the future, especially when I take the kids to the zoo for the added length or maybe Niagara or other landscapey places for the added width, I think of all the people who are content with just snapping pictures of everything with thir iPhones, no matter where they are. I could crop to 50 and still retain a high MP count and even out to 70 and still be ok for the most part. I love shooting at 35, and always have. I told myself that if I had to shoot just 1 focal length for the rest of my life, it would be 35. I rationalize to myself that I would rather have a shot of an unforgettable memory of my family that may not be an artistic masterpiece whether it's due to poor composition, subject being too far, etc, than to not have it at all. This would lead most people to say, just get an RX100IV and be done with it, but come on, that would be far too easy and not as fun to have the IQ to play with.

Look at the smaller Crumpler bags. I have a 5MDH that I picked up cheap for my Eos M back when it came out. The 2,3, and four million dollar home bags are pretty small. I think a 3MDH would just hold an A7RII with adapter and lens.

Take a look at some of the bags that never made it to the US. I bought one off of eBay called the JackPack 5500 and it fits the a7rII perfectly with a 24-70 attached and you can squeeze in the 28 and the 55 as well. Has separate sections for memory cards and uses a zippered opening, has a front flap that's Velcro that you can out other stuff in. I'll try and post some pictures to the Sony bag thread later.

Beautiful!

You really need a lightly used 5DS R to go with that...hehe. :p

Haha. Nice one David. You know I would if there were no Sony cameras around but there's just no going back -- for now anyways.

Far too expensive for a camera bag

take a look at clik elite on amazon,i have 4 clik bags of different shapes and sizes, from a tiny shoulder bag for my tiny em5 with no extra lenses to a full size back pack with enough room for a day trip and 5 lenses and everything else i own haha.they are great quality and reasonably priced even better if u find a open box one:-)

Thanks for the compliments!

TBH I like the creative flexibility of having different focal lengths at my disposal as I like to play with different FOV's, but if the only lens I had was a 35mm, I could make it work for probably 90% of what I shoot. It's my favorite focal length. This is why I've been intrigued with the rx1 since the original was announced years ago.

If indoor/outdoor versatility is all you need, a 24-240mm Sony is what you need. True it is a bit heavy, but you won't have to swap lenses a lot. You only lose semi-macro and you can fix that with a set of Sony E-mount spacers.

Went out today for a bit with the A7RII and the EF 400 and metabones. Canon will be pleased to hear that this combination is not a good sports/birding combination. It was in fact an exercise in frustration, Between the shutter lag and the EV lag my keeper rate was less than 10%. AF was terrible.

For those of you who are looking for a small bag to carry your a7 camera and 1-3 lenses in, I added some pictures of the Crumpler JackPack 5500 in the accessories section. I don't think the bag was ever released in the US, but I was able to get it off of eBay. Very comfortable, is laid out really well with separate compartments, uses zippers for the main part, velcro for the secondary part, and will hold an a7rII, 24-70, 55, and 28 lenses.

Im really liking the billingham hadley pro. It looks very nice, has space for a7r and a7s, each a lens attached and then space for 5 rangefinder lenses or another dslr sized lens.
The best thing is the front pockets and the zip pocket on the back which holds an ipad and it doesnt look as big from outside. The price is rather high but damn i went through a lot of dirt rain and snow with it and i must admit it is top notch quality.

Need to post it here somewhere too!

Zethar I've got nothing in your league of lenses but did try a couple 'whites' with Metabones and ended up adding the 70-400g2. Very pleased especially weight-wise. Not quite
the IQ of your pro level stuff but since I've got a night job it works for me.
Now don't these guys look better in the woods than on a cereal box-

Did a count and on the trip I used the A7Rii + LAEA3 + 70-400g2 2.5 times as much as I did the 7Dii + 300/2.8.
Thinking over the whole experience photo wise if I'd had a flash strong enough to reach way up for the owls I could have left the
Canon at home---the only place it really would have beat the Son would have been BIFs but Cost Rica didn't present me with many
BIF possibles.....any birds we saw flying were gong 2-5 feet from under the canopy to under the canopy. Still the Canon was necessary
for the owls so no regrets there.
I did shoot frogs with both and at those distances I can say that the Nissin did wonferfully compared to the 580EXii.

Do you think a Canon close focus adapter might work on the 24-240mm ?
I used it on the Sony 70-400g2 and thought it do OK.
Maybe just another option. They come in different sizes, here is what I'm referring to-

When we were hiking on the trip I put it in the pack and left a dedicated macro lens in the room.
