I'm probably going to snag a used RX1/R once the used prices come down a bit more. Have been thinking about it a bit more, and given that I already own the a7rII, the rx1rII is overkill for what would be a casual-use camera, and the RX1/R can be had used for 1/3 the price of the rx1rII brand new. The only thing I'd miss is the built in EVF, but it looks like the EVF in the MKII is the same in the rx100....and that thing is tiny!
That makes sense, since you're making great use out of all the lenses you have, especially the Batis and the whole interchangeable works for you. I've been enjoying your shots throughout this thread.
For me this past weekend made me realize that at this point in my life, an interchangeable system isn't ideal, no matter how small the setup. Taking my two kids around Hersheypark and other places around the area was a handful. Pushing strollers, chasing after my 2.5 yr old, packing up suitcase after suitcase hopping around 3 different hotels based on where we were staying, etc. The moments I had to shoot I was carrying around my go to backpack for shooting (my Mindshift Panorama) which makes accessing camera gear super fast. But still I would leave the 24-70 on the camera but regretted it indoors. Which made me swap to my 55, which was great but sometimes too long inside. Which made me consider picking up a 35 f/2.8 for the size/weight/width, but you see where I'm going with this. I could go on all day about which lens is ideal in which situation. If it was just me and my wife then carrying around a bag full of lenses wouldn't be a problem. Heck at that point I might've just stuck to my capable DSLR. If I just had my 2.5 yr old to deal with the I could see myself doing it. With 2 though, the size/space/weight/speed is at a premium.
While I could see myself cursing myself for the decision in the future, especially when I take the kids to the zoo for the added length or maybe Niagara or other landscapey places for the added width, I think of all the people who are content with just snapping pictures of everything with thir iPhones, no matter where they are. I could crop to 50 and still retain a high MP count and even out to 70 and still be ok for the most part. I love shooting at 35, and always have. I told myself that if I had to shoot just 1 focal length for the rest of my life, it would be 35. I rationalize to myself that I would rather have a shot of an unforgettable memory of my family that may not be an artistic masterpiece whether it's due to poor composition, subject being too far, etc, than to not have it at all. This would lead most people to say, just get an RX100IV and be done with it, but come on, that would be far too easy and not as fun to have the IQ to play with.
