Question about helicoids - Am I supposed to be focussing with the helicoid adaptor instead of the lens? It feels like if I want to focus close I should be setting the lens to the closest focus distance and then using the helicoid movement to fine tune. I just want to check that this is how you are supposed to do it

I've put mine on the A7 with the CV40 to check fitment and that is how I would probably think of doing it yes going by how it feels to use.

cheers Lee, mine arrived today as you can probably tell. Its plastic so not as well built feeling as my all metal non helicoid adaptor but it seems to be doing the trick.

I dont think there is a special rule to this. I just focus using both at the same time just what i feel i need to do.

+1, whatever works.

personally, I use the regular focus mechanism up until the point I need the helicoid. I can pretty much tell when I need to use the helicoid, and at that point, I just focus all the way out, then start using the helicoid.

after a while, it becomes second nature.

Cheers guys, the cv40 is a real fun lens even more so now I'm not limited to 0.7m close focus. I just need to practice more with manual focus. I can only really nail it with magnify, peaking just doesn't seem accurate to me at wide apertures. My af native lenses will still be my go to for people

Jupiter 8 , my daily lens on the A7. Wish I had the black version but the hood cleans it up.

So you already got the SY 135? What are your initial thoughts???

In other news, 3rd time's the charm.
I got my re-prints at Costco. This time they look great.
The problem was on my end. I have to be diligent about converting to the sRGB profile before exporting to JPG in PS. Otherwise my JPG ends up with a ProPhoto profile, which apparently does not translate well when uploading the jpgs to the Costco's website.
That's my theory at least. But when I redid all my conversions, everything worked perfectly.

I happened to have 5 or 6 empty frames that I purchased at a thrift store not too long ago for a bargain. So now I'm printing a bunch of my photos to hang around the house. Nothing like spending $5 on a frame and $3.99 on a print to have a framed pic hanging for less than $10.
Doing this "professionally" would cost me about 10 times as much. hehe.

Sony A7RII and a bunch of lenses.

downside is huge but that's not a problem to me. That's gonna make me look like a pro during paid session.

There is zero CA but it's overcast here today. Tomorrow I'm going to do a side by side comparison with the Pentax 135.

It's sure is as sharp as what I've seen in flickers samples and youtube.
