Anybody know of DeepSkyStacker.
Well it's giving me a problem.
It won't stack sony .raw files :(
So this image from late last night (as if I didn't get enough of being out in the cold all weekend on the cycle-camping trip)
is a single raw, 30 second exposure with minimal processing considering I could not stack all 35 images I got of M31. I can only wonder how
much better it might be if I could stack them. I'm sure the problem is with DeepSkyStacker and I even shot in crop mode
so not to choke the software with huge files-that didn't help either.
Sony A7Rii + Astrotech AT65, no tracking, no guiding....just the normal 4 star calibration and polar alignment.
Still I have to say I'm impressed with the Sony sensor-

Wow, beautiful and awe inspiring image.

Color rendition and microcontrast are amazing. I also like the typical Zeiss vignette and usually disable the LR vignette "fix".

You and Carlo make a powerful case for this lens as a must-have.

Wow, amazing capture. Wish I could help on the technical stuff.

Thanks David. I'll just keep correcting the profile vignette 'correction' for now. Below is a before/after for comparison...

Nice portrait Gene. With regards to the profile, on Lightroom once you apply the profile you can actually slide the vignette slider just below the profile tick box to a negative value which undoes the vignette correction but leaves the rest of the corrections the profile made alone. Im not familiar with using raws in PS but I believe they are the same processing engines so I guess there should be a way to do the same in there.

That's true Eddie. I just don't remember a lens correction on vignetting this severe in ACR. Here is a comparison. First, straight into ACR and then after lens correction is applied. I definetly like it better without the vignette correction so that's added an extra step for me.

Looks good Gene. Yeah the vignetting correction in the adobe lens profile is inaccurate....it overexposes the corners slightly.

I'll say!

Technical problems come and go :)

Eddy, this is the DSS box I get no matter what parameters I choose (and I think I've tried all possibles),
this with just 5 Sony .raw files.
I think I just need to scour the astro forums, surely I'm not the only person using an A7x body for astro.

A self portrait while playing with my new Batis 25 f2 lens.

One thing I don't like is PS CC 2015's lens profile for this lens. It makes the perimeter much too light in my opinion. It may be just a personal preference that I like the center of my images darker than the edges normally but for some reason, I think the lens correction profile for this lens in PS's ACR is over done and lightens the edges too much. Without the profile on, the CA, especially the greens are a bit harder to deal with too. I may have to give C1 9 a spin.

On this shot, I didn't use the profile and purposely darkened the outside perimeter even more as well as brighten my face a little.

it's kind of annoying when that happens, but I do have a lens that's especially bad in that regard, and that's the 12mm. What you can do is what eddie mentions, and slide the vignette to 0, and then make a preset for that particular lens. Not sure if there's any other way to apply geometric correction without applying vignetting correction. Since I adapt stuff and the corrections dont come up, I just make presets for corrections, and apply them with vignetting correction already switched off.

Thanks Charlie, I may have to see about creating a preset to save a little time.

Oh, I probably should have blurred my sig a little more too so it blended in better but I wanted to keep it readable. :-)

Eddie, found the solution, or one possible solution so you were spot on.
Evidently I messed up early this morning (sleep deprived maybe).
But AFTER converting the Sony .raw to DNG via Bridge I can stack!!!
So tomorrow when I wake up I'll have a go at the Pleiades fingers crossed.
