My dilemma is I already have a 35 f1.4 with AF. I've thought of the CV75 f1.8 but I have a Canon 85 f1.8 and Sony 90 f2.8. The CV15 f4 sounds intriguing but I have the FE 16-35 f4 that covers that FL almost. Is there a 24 or 21mm lens in M mount that's compact?

Anybody know of DeepSkyStacker.
Well it's giving me a problem.
It won't stack sony .raw files :(
So this image from late last night (as if I didn't get enough of being out in the cold all weekend on the cycle-camping trip)
is a single raw, 30 second exposure with minimal processing considering I could not stack all 35 images I got of M31. I can only wonder how
much better it might be if I could stack them. I'm sure the problem is with DeepSkyStacker and I even shot in crop mode
so not to choke the software with huge files-that didn't help either.
Sony A7Rii + Astrotech AT65, no tracking, no guiding....just the normal 4 star calibration and polar alignment.
Still I have to say I'm impressed with the Sony sensor-

What an amazing capture! When it is a single exposure of 30s, how comes that it is not blurred out? And what FL did you use?

hows the Sony 70-400? Is the version 1 decent? or is II much better?

I really like the G1. The only real difference is autofocus speed on the new model. The G2 is much better in this regard. I have found tracking to work well, but initial acquisition is somewhat slow. It's similar to the canon 100-400L, maybe slightly slower even. (This may be due to the laea4 vs canon 7D I was using.)

Some superb images recently! I can't even imagine how to pull off that astro shot.

You got to love the 3D rendering of Zeiss glass.

He looks so small, especially when he was sitting on Santa's lap. When he's a teenager, he'll probably sprout like crazy and wind up 6'2" :-)

Fiddling around with the A7R in the yard today...our unseasonably warm weather made my Encore Azaleas pull a second Encore...probably means they won't bloom in the spring...

I wanted to try out the 24-70L and then crop...and crop a lot, the final is only 1200 pixels square from the original file...

DF I've never thought of focal length when using the AT65. I'll have to think about that or google it.
The 65 means it has a 65mm objective, that is all I know.
30 seconds was the longest I could go without tracking, anything beyond and I was
getting star movement, and ISO was 12,800.
Later on in the night I did use tracking and longer exposures for the Pleiades, Bodes and the Cigar galaxies
with exposures of 1-2 minutes and ISO 3200.
Haven't gotten to them yet in processing. I had to go back to work :(

You've got that all wrong Eddie. Version V won't be announced until the day after your return policy expires. ;-)a

at least I got my metabones for free, so it won't hurt as much when Mark V comes out ;)

This is the entry to the bar at the new Hotel Emma. I believe those tanks are all original to the building which used to be a brewery.

As reported on Sonyalpharumors,Spencer Pablo tests the new Sky HDR app from Sony. Here's an excerpt of what he had to say:

"This app is remarkable to me for the reason that it does a composite of the land and the sky--each with it’s own exposure settings. You can independently control the white balance, shutter and aperture of each element. You set the boundary between the sky area and the land area and rotate it appropriately to match your horizon. When you get your settings dialed in, you push the shutter button and your camera takes an image with the land settings first, then it takes the second exposure with your sky settings. It presents it to you then asks if you would like to tweak your boundary settings (position of boundary, as well as the defocus area--the strength of the effect near the horizon). When you accept the changes, you can then save the image. Oh yeah, it can also do this on the RAW file."

You can read the rest here: https://alphauniverse.com/stories/playmemories-sky-hdr/ (external link) The price for the app is $10. Not bad considering it can replace filters, holders, step rings, etc.

To be honest, not interested at all. Whats the difference in shooting brackets and make an HDR in lightroom? It works fantastic and there you have at least both source files and not a baked-together raw file.
To me things like this is so prone to ghosting effects and other strange behaviors...
