Eddie maybe it can't be done hardware wise but I'd like to hear it from Sony.
It's almost like it's capturing the whole sensor's worth and then maybe downsampling
to 18mp/crop size......wouldn't that explain why when doing 4K video it's crop and also
very low noise signature ??
Not that you can't do bif at 5 fps. I've done it with a 6D and 5Diii. Really 5 fps is plenty,
but your odds go up.......

Another one I keep ranting on is the custom button to go in and out of crop. I've lot track
of how many times I forget to switch. Even shooting the pier with the 28mm at first I
was in crop!

I'll have to ask Gene if there is an icon in the EVF display I should look for denoting crop mode.
Really that's not an issue either if truth be known. 18 mp's is plenty too. In fact I'm waiting on
an EOS 1D iv to arrive and it's only 16 mp's :)

Have you considered saving settings to 1 and 2 on the dial? One with crop mode, one without.

I used to forget to switch ibis off when using a tripid so I saved settings to mode 2 on the dial. Now when I use a tripod I remember I need to switch to mode 2 so never forget to switch ibis off anymore

No I hadn't thought of that!
I'll give it a go next time I'm playing Sony.
Thanks :)

Nice video with explanation of focus modes and a neat powerzoom trick for videographers for everyone that is struggling with focus modes on the A7R2 like myself :p

Here's the icon for being in APS-C mode but it doesn't show up in every screen on the LCD. Toggle the information shown on the LCD by clicking the "UP" button on the main controller on the rear of the camera to see which screens it shows in. It will be in the top third of the screen near the middle. That icon doesn't show at all when looking through the viewfinder.

Arrrrrggg. I needed it in the EVF. I hardly ever look at the LCD even when chimping (is it chimping?).

Its crazy. I found myself using the LCD more than the EVF. Im too long away from DSLRs :p

Want to change that, it makes me look like a tourist sometimes hahaha

Haha, we're all so different thank goodness ;)
If there is a glare my eyes will find it and if a camera has an alternate larger eyecup I'll add it. Just
bought an enhanced eyecup for my Lumix. I like to squoosh them against my eye so NO light gets in :)

it's been cold as heck in socal, frozen windshields in the morning...

Yeah. I saw that. To clarify, the highs were about 45 degrees. It was about 23-25 around dinner time. Frozen fountains and all.

Along the banks of Oak Creek...

Does the evf eats less battery power than the LCD?

I'm sure I read on FM when the camera first cane out that they were pretty much a wash. Someone done testing and also showed thar putting the camera in airplane mode didn't save any power either

Hmm but is it just me or does the A7R2 last longer with a battery than A7S and A7R. Ive used the same batteries and am pretty sure it lasts longer even with IBIS etc

I've been pretty much using one battery on an all-day shoot out in the cold over this past trip. If that tells you anything.
Pretty sure the battery life has not been much of an issue for me so far. Although I always have 3-4 spares in my pocket, just in case.

Interestingly, now that I've had to look at a bunch of pics with very blue skies (Sedona), I am starting to notice what Lee was talking about, I think. My skies never seem to look quite the right blue. The Sony seems to put a slight aqua/turquoise cast on what should be very deep blue clear skies.
I don't recall ever noticing this with my 6D.
