Please be nice to me, its my very first time trying out 1:1 photography ;)

I quite like the results. But im not sure what leaves me with mixed feelings. Is this lens sharp? Is it compressed raw? See yourself:

Nice shots! Love those colors. I don't think it's your impression, those do appear to be a bit soft. I think you may just not be used to how DOF works when you get to macro levels. It gets super, super small. Even at f/8, depending on how close you are to your subject, you might have a total DOF that could be measured in millimeters. This is why a lot of people will use tripods and flashes.. You really need to stop down in order to get things in focus, and again, that's really a function of your aperture and distance to subject (as well as obviously focal length, but you can't really change that with this lens).

Thank you!

Well i have shot them at f/22 because i noticed the shallow DOF myself. Maybe its diffraction?

Well the third shot was at f/4 or so so there i understand it :)

Oh, well it could be diffraction then! Macro can be very difficult to do well.. which is why I don't do it that often.. :P

The masters of macro will stack a hundred shots to get a bee in perfect focus, wafer thin DOF and lots of light are the tools of the trade. Their shots are astounding but the work to get them is plenty too.

Some time ago i read a few things about macro as i wanted to get the 100L back then. So i decided i would use my tripod and try slower shutterspeeds. I also noticed that every bit of air makes the flower move, didnt think of that before

This is what i always thought. And now that ive tried it, i can clearly see why... Its a lot harder than many other types of photography. I even had good light and a tripod but i guess to get everything perfectly sharp theres no way without stacking, especially as diffrection kicks in. I never noticed diffraction in any images but here i guess this is it.

Here one which shows the sharpness a bit. Looks better now at f/4

I have the 85 Batis on pre-order, but it's got some serious competition for a space in my camera bag.

Congrats on the lens David.

Does anyone have the minolta 50mm f1.7 lens? If so, what adapter works with the A series bodies?

Don't have it but I have been looking at it. Its supposed to be a great lens. I think you get a MD - Nex adaptor

do u mean e mount bodies, the a7 line up is e mount,i have a lma-md-em to mount my minolta glass the the a7,i have the 50mm 1.7 and its great on the a7,its one of my favourite lens, they can be found very cheap,i have an olympus adapter also and a canon and i just bought a nikon so i can mount any lens i find at garage sales or pawn shops, they are fotodiox brand from amazon and fit great and seem well built for the price,al metal and tight.minolta glass on the a7 is magic,i have a 135 2.8 that rarely leaves the a7,and most minolta glass can be found very cheap.iv posted some pics with the a7 and the minolta 50mm,i have a 1.7 and f2 50mm and both are great.

Coming soon: World’s first translucent E-mount adapter for Canon lenses!

http://www.sonyalpharumors.com …adapter-for-canon-lenses/ (external link)

If this thing works as well as the LA-EA4, then it may actually be a bigger deal than the a7rII in terms of mounting Canon lenses. The LA-EA4 in my experience is not 'almost DSLR fast'. It is straight up DSLR fast. The downside is that the AF coverage is very limited with the LA-EA4.

Who is using the Metabones IV adapter around here? I would really like to get the 24-TSE for my a7r (or possibly a7r mk2 in near future) but all the negative feedback around 'snug' fit makes me bit nervous to drop all that cash on these two?

Can someone please tell me that this is just overblown and no one is having this issue around here?
