Dont want to open up the whole filters vs non filters for protection debate again but I decided long ago nit to do it. If I damage a lens I have camera insurance that will sort it. My excess is less than a decent filter would cost me

Plus the new GM series already have a Nano AR Coating built into it. I'm using my hoods 100% of the time on all my lenses so i'm good.

Jup, same here. Hoods provide enough protection for me as well as those lenses are pretty durable, especially the glass. A UV filter will break much faster than actual front elements.

Sigma just released an EF to FE adapter. It supports AF, Stabilisation and aperture control. I dont know about how well sigmas lenses focus with the metabones as i dont own sigma lenses but if it does not work well i bet it would with this

My 50 ART is dead on if I am patient enough with it on the 7R...can't wait to move up to the 7R2...

More than one video out there showing someone wacking a front element with a hammer and doing no damage...I used to use UV filters, but the started to see little reflections, they were always getting dirty...too much hassle..

Sigma 50-100 f/1.8 aps-c. Useless IMO to get a monster lens for aps-c

Monster as in long focal length ??
Useless?
Help me understand..
I just added 500mm for the Canon kit and took it to Canada two weeks ago
and really appreciated the crop and pixel density for the far away shots.

My saga with this Buteo continues as does shooting from the blind. Fascinating shooting him from 12-15 feet.
He came four days in a row, then I changed out the bird studio and he's staying away surveying the situation. In
fact he watched me arrange the new bushes and props from about 200 meters. I think he'll be back one he watches
for a few days.

Monster as in size and weight. I realize that it might be extremely useful as a video lens for movie makers or for users of aps-c cameras. But i am generally against putting aps-c lenses on a fullframe camera. Whats the point of having a fullframe camera when you end up cropping the pictures to get a 16mpx file out of a 42mpx capable camera

1490 grams! Same weight as a 70-200II. I wish they would start focussing on FE mount art lenses smaller than the dslr versions. I'd be all over that

I am in 35mm paradise right now with the Canon 35L II, but the Sigma is almost as good for half the price.

35mm is just such an awesome fl for me. :)

I love 35mm lenses, but none of them are perfect. Very demanding focal length IMO, as its long enough to use for shots you'd actually care to open up the aperture all the way, but not so long that you can benefit from FOV compression to get nice bokeh and subject isolation.

Even after the RX1RII, I have a hard time letting go of the 35 1.4 ZA. Not the sharpest out there, but the rendering and bokeh are great.

Sigma is making lenses for the sake of differentiating...but a lot of the lenses don't make a whole lot of sense to me. i.e., 24-35 f2 is unique for opening up to f2, but very limited focal range given the size. For the size and weight of that thing I'd rather have a 24-70 2.8, or a prime or two in the ball-park of that focal range.

I'd like to see a 35, 50, 85, 135 from them but designed for FE so that they were smaller than their dslr counterparts. I read something from the sigma boss saying that eventually there would be FE lenses but they were concentrating on canikon first as its their biggest market. He said there would be no point releasing a 50 1.8 due to the FE55 but 1.4 on the other hand would be worth it. He also said they would aim to make them smaller than dslr. 12 months have passed though and there's not a hint of it yet.

Whilst I love my adapted sigma on the sony I would still love smaller versions and sigma pricing has always been reasonable even for new

very nice :)

My sigma 35 art and my 150-600 sport are focusing great on metabones. but if priced right another adapter is very welcomed :)

I want someone to make a better adapter that would support all the native features, the techart adapter does it, but I returned mine build quality wasn't good.

If metabones crack the eye AF code and release a mk V adaptor (or a firmware update for the mk iv) it would be epic! Imagine eye AF on all canon lenses with the build quality of metabones. Surely they are working on it?

it is possible, techart proved that, I just wish their build quality was better.

Lock-On focus, eye-af it all worked great, the cheap build quality was the reason why I returned it.

No doubt they'll come out with a new mk V that does eye AF (but it will turn out that it only works on the left eye) and, a few months later, will quietly introduce a mk V 'T' adapter that actually does both eyes.

OK, I am still annoyed that Metabones came out with mk V, which supposedly works better with TS-E lenses (wider hole and, they claimed, a more matte hole). I bought that one and then months later they came out with the model 'T' that is actually properly flocked. The jerks.
