Do EFCS compromise image quality?

It can cause artifacts at high shutter speeds. Also can cause zebra patterns with fluorescent lights.

Not to say you're wrong, but I wonder if this will be true. The current E-mount Sigma lenses are hobbled compared to Sony/Zeiss lenses in their ability to use the whole AF system on the a6000/a5100.

They were released many years before PDAF was implemented. Future releases such as the new 30 f/1.4 should be optimized for it. That's one of the risks of 3rd party lenses. Have to hope they continue to improve it for future models. The Zeiss Touits didn't support PDAF before a FW upgrade that you had to mail the lenses in for were updated.

Regarding the 135mm lenses. Also take a look at this review. On page 2 he compares the Zeiss 2/135 with the Nikkor 135mm F/2 and the Samyang 135mm F/2.

I managed to find a little time yesterday to go out to a nearby spot to get some practice flight time in with my Phantom 3. Most of my time was spent trying to remember things like which way to roll the wheel to tilt the camera up/down , etc. I did try to do a POI shot of my car for the first time too. This was rendered as 2160p video using the highest 2704 x 1520 resolution of the P3 Standard.

Price considered SY looks amazing! Nearly as good as the Zeiss. But, a confession: reviews like that really bug me because they don't do much to speak to aesthetic rendering. They mainly look at sharpness, CA, and other measurables. Great measurables don't automatically make a great a great lens (or NFL player) and the Apo Sonnar is a perfect case in point. It's like those athletes that are warriors in the gym - look amazing getting off the bus - but can't cut it when it is actually game time.

I hate to say it, because I am a huge Zeiss fan, but the Apo Sonnar just doesn't have that pleasing a render to me. Dummy me got suckered and swayed by techinal reviews like this one and a couple years ago I sold my Zeiss Makro-Planar 2/100 - which has an exceptional rendering - for the supposedly optically superior "Otus-like" Apo Sonnar. Just looking at my extensive LR catalog of both lenses I can say that despite the technical/clinical superiority of the Apo Sonnar, the MP 2/100 is simply a better rendering lens; it makes much more interesting photos even though it is duller and CA-prone.

All that said I may still keep the Zeiss 135mm since, after all, it's already in the bag. But, I need to force myself to use it long and hard (that's what she said) until I either begin to love it or despise it so much that I can sell it without regret (to prevent a future relapse). Although I have just ripped on the Apo Sonnar, it is by no means a bad lens and in its defense it can be said that a lens with an immaculately clean but deperately boring rendering can be a great canvas for post-processing...the lens injects zero personality, leaving it up to the artist to inject his own. That's not entirely a bad thing.

Anyway, get ready for some a7R II + Apo Sonnar photos, cause I'm on a mission to learn the truth: Does David love or loathe the Apo Sonnar? Time to find out once and for all.

Even though it was really the wrong time of day for it, I shot a couple of raw (.dng) images during my flight using the P3 Standard yesterday. Altitude was 180 ft. Original image size was 3992 x 2992. Exif info is on the corresponding Flickr page.

I had a question about eye af on the original a7.

I haven't used any native lenses on the a7 yet, but will probably pick up a couple down the road and I'm interested in eye AF for
Portraits. I also use back button focusing with the button (where the af/mf and ael toggle switch is). I'm wondering if it's possible to activate eye af
And still use back button focusing in an intuitive fashion?

I've never liked "half press" autofocusing.

I think his review is pretty decent since he doesn't only look at sharpness and CA, but also at bokeh and flare resistance at different apertures. Which part(s) of the rendering aspect isn't he mentioning according to you? The more I see and read about the Samyang 135mm F/2, the more I think it's the best 135mm lens for the money and it's also in the top 3 of best 135mm lenses available right now.

A7rii owners. Does this look normal? I just noticed the gold pins on the hotshoe are not all aligned, there are 4 that are lower than the rest but not sure if that's what its supposed to be like. I'm having a bit of trouble with my nissin in that when I switch It on the camera isn't realising there's a flash connected sometimes and it doesn't fire . Not sure if its a flash issue or a pin issue

nevermind, saw a photo online and the pins were the same as mine. Looks like I may have an issue with the flash

Very cool Gene. Those perspectives are why I want a drone.

I have been walking around the track and paddock today with the A7R and the Sigma 20mmART.... I love this lens...
