I think his review is pretty decent since he doesn't only look at sharpness and CA, but also at bokeh and flare resistance at different apertures. Which part(s) of the rendering aspect isn't he mentioning according to you? The more I see and read about the Samyang 135mm F/2, the more I think it's the best 135mm lens for the money and it's also in the top 3 of best 135mm lenses available right now.
Actually you're right. It's among the better reviews for showing rendering...I haven't viewed the review on my PC yet, but on my iPad the images are too small. Still, I give them much higher marks than other more popular review sites like Photozone, DXO, and others that focus almost solely on the measurables and just provide some token sample shots without commentary to cover the rendering aspect.
What I would love to see in that review is the same shots taken with all the lenses they mention in their review. Take the "Pin Pal" doll aperture series; I want to see the same series with SY as well so I can see how each lens renders the OOF. All the bokeh comparison I see is bokeh ball coparison (SY is the best there!). Maybe I missed something? To be fair, it is only a Zeiss APO Sonnar review, but they brought the SY and Nikkor into the review, so I want to see more extensive comparisons.
Factoring the money, for sure the SY looks like an easy winner. Whenever you finally pull the trigger on an a7R XIV you should definitely get one for it.
I am kidding, but it does raise an interesting point for you: You are waiting for the perfect camera, but even if one finally is released there aren't any perfect lenses to attach it to. In fact lenses contribute a lot more to an image quality than camera stuff like compressed raw. Lens decisions are way harder than camera ones, imo.
