UPS delivered a new lens this afternoon: the 2016 Tamron 90mm macro. Love the crazy detail that the lens renders.

AF with the Tamron 90mm macro is terrible on the a7R II for macro shots, but generally works OK with standard subjects like this:

Send Metabones a note about the lens. They will go out and buy it and issue a new software update. Usually takes a few weeks. They just issued .48 update for a specific lens a few days ago.

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

Hahaha i'm suprised too with what i did. Actually it was dark already and harder to focus so i made it f4 to gave myself a little bit of assurance i nail the focus. I have a powerfull strobe so it's ok to stop down.

Just took some initial handheld macro shots with the 5DS R. The VC is off the charts good...can't believe how good it is!

Truly wowed with the lens right now. Only minor negatives I'm seeing (after only an hour shooting it) is not buttery smooth bokeh - Canon 100L is likely much better in that regard - and it's got a touch of who-cares CA. I got this to take the place of my Zeiss Apo Sonnar 2/135mm ZE and right now I am loving this Tamron so much more.

I watched the YT video on a review of that lens, supposedly one of a kind VC, which has xy movements, costs 100 or so LESS than the old 90vc, weather resistant, MTF charts very good, seems like a really good deal, even at full msrp.

just waiting for tamron to liquidate the old 90's for $300 :-P

not big on macro, just get me something that works without tubes and I'm happy.

If so it's very affordable.
Adapter?

See this is another thing I can't keep up with, damned birds are ruling my life.

The f4.5 Heliar is a lot more affordable than this, Roger.

my god, if this works on regular canon lenses, I'de buy it in a heartbeat.

Even if the Sigma can't, its only a matter of time before another adapter does. The tech-art adapter already fully unlocks the AF for Canon lenses...its just really buggy and poorly built.

So I found a used CV 15 Heliar on FM today. Pulled the trigger. I've owned that lens before, but that was before the A7RII. I want to see how well it performs on this camera.
I'm willing to give up AF at that specific FL since DOF is almost a non-issue there.

David A. Nice shots with the Tamron. While only B&W? So, the AF on it via adapter is not quite there yet? I think at that FL, I'll stick to the native FE 90 which is very sharp and has great bokeh.

Sony A7RII and a bunch of lenses.

Thanks! The car is in color. :) The thing that has me so giddy over the Tamron right now (and why 2/3 are in B&W) is I am nuts over the microcontrast detail. The low res allowed here on POTN ruins it, but viewed large it's just amazing.

Yeah, AF is a bit sketchy on the a7R II. Not a real concern for me - the AF is very fast and accurate on the 5DS R, so that may be where I use it most.

FE 90mm is phenomenal - an easy best choice for the consistent a7x user (native glass).
